Not sure it is the time slot that makes a difference!

Comparisons to the 'night' games of 2020 and 2021 figures, aren't really vallid as they both had all Vic teams and Victoria was in lock down with a metro night curfew!

Why are 2022 the lowest of all time:

  • Beautiful spring day, other things to do
  • Two smallish teams with one from interstate
  • Neutral fans didn't care
  • People have gone off football during the covid years

Hopefully, they don't use the unusual circumstances of 2020 and 2021 to change the time slot.

Had about 30 people over and watched the game on one tv.. last year they would have watch it on their own. Probably another reason. People going to pubs and stuff

This is funny. But when Perth Police tweeted this about us after the 2018 prelim I was ready to burn their headquarters down.
Don’t worry, @Ethan Tremblay, I would’ve given you the heads up so as you could pull a sickie that day. 😁

Good chance I probably called in sick that day anyway WCW, but appreciate being thought of before committing arson.

Not necessarily.

The only way to leave the members is to scan your card to get out .  Will the MCC be smart enough to do a search of those who took leave passes and check timing of the scan.  ?  Maybe?

The system will have that info.

I spent the 3rd 1/4 not watching the game and came back to my seat and the area was only half full. Plenty had left by that time, me too just after start of last.

Very limited atmosphere for a GF IMO.

You can just leave without scanning out. You only need to scan out if you’re planning to return.

He spoke very well Selwood. Geelong were the best side in it last year we just knocked them off during our once in a century purple patch.

err we beat them 3 times

I know a few people who got a ticket in the ballot, knew that they wouldn't be allowed into the ballot next year if they didn't go yesterday so they went to the G, walked through the gate and went home.

Yeah but they would have had to scan there card to get out so if they just left and didn't come back the MCC will know

Decent chance Cats kick 7 goals to 1 in the first Q and it’s game over

Swans need to play a massive first Q

No.  At Gate 2 The only turnstile to leave without scanning, which is open around 3/4 time each game, was padlocked closed on Saturday. With security only allowing staff in and out withour scanning.

Pity Adem Yze didn't get one, would have knocked off two letters in one go. Not bad for a three letter surname!

Completely agree. Also because these teams have been successful over the past 20 years and everyone is sick of them!

But the media will use this narrative to change to twilight next year for sure.

They already have: seven-renews-push-for-night-grand-final-after-ratings-slump-for-one-sided-decider

I don't mind a twilight game.

That's an outrageous disgrace.

Yeah what the hell? Make all that effort to get to the ground and split? It's a GF for god's sake. I've never been to one and these crud muckets just think they can pull this stuff? Give me a spell

The praise of Scott and Ducker Selwood on the AFL website, calling Scott a ‘genius’ and Selwood the greatest ever Geelong player is nauseating. So they beat Swans on a day when the Swans didn’t turn up to play and had stage fright in the GF. Whoopee doo!

The TV ratings for this game should put to bed the lie that Sydney are the most supported team in the competition:

https://www.afr.com/companies/sport/afl-grand-final-a-ratings-bomb-for-channel-7-20220925-p5bkt9

How is it that barely 300K watch "their team" from NSW in the GF , when supposedly they have 1.2 M "supporters"  across the country? And that assumes the NSW viewers are Swans supporters.... oh yes, Roy Morgan think so:

As much as I hate Jee-long (which is a lot), that's pretty funny.

Classic case of "scoreboard!!"

Love the Cat's mad Monday theme

On the TV ratings it strikes me that the Friday holiday has provided the excuse for many to exit Melbourne thus further reducing the viewers.

Under 400k viewers in Sydney is amazingly low...Swans have been there now for over forty years

On the tv ratings, you had 100,000 people at the ground live, you had live sites and pubs showing it which I believe doesn't factor and this year you could meet at peoples homes so people would have had parties.

And aside from that Sydney are so freaking smug, in players faces with 'toughness', pushing and shoving etc They deserve to be smacked down.

100% agree and Tom Papley heads the list.  So sick of the Sydney champions, always compeditive [censored].  Not so compeditive in GFs (though I'd also love to have won a second premership within my lifetime).

I'm sure other teams supporters would probably say and think the same about the MFC, so I guess that's an opposition supporters right to have that kind of pejorative and perspective on the enemy.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
