Because we got our fitness terribly wrong and teams knew they could outwork us as we were exhausted.

Wrong in what way though THBT??

My gut feel tells me they MIGHT have gone too hard too early (built them up to a mad level of top end fitness) leaving many spent by the time we got to round 12ish.

Goodwin's poor player management in the second half of the season exacerbated this overkill pre-season prepping.

Big emphasis on 'might have' and pure speculation on my behalf.

Agreed, though it’s infuriating. If Sydney somehow don’t win, then this years premier must be considered extremely weak. Even Geelong are a bog average team away from home at GMHBA. This is excruciating watching this as we know we’ve wasted a year of our window. Our best would absolutely demonlish these two teams. Losing to Brisbane at home last week was one of the worst losses in decades IMO.

Don’t understand this thinking. This years premiers will be as deserving as anyone. We need to get our heads out of the sand with that view that our best is unbeatable. Well, guess what, we were very beatable this year. Geelong are strangling Brisbane, and I will guarantee you, they will not give Brisbane a sniff from here. Unlike us.

Lions played their grand final last week.

This game is a non-event. Think i'll go to bed

For a prelim final this game is very poor. 2 sides running around looking like they don't want to get injured. That won't be the case tmmrw evening.

Another goal from a friggin free to Geelong. Game over.
EDIT Hawkins choke.

The only way I will credit the sheet the Dee's played in the finals ( mega choke) is that Hawkins wouldn't have kicked any more goals against May than Buddy did.

Why do Geelong have sequinned shorts on? Are they going to do a cabaret number at half time?

The Liberace of the AFL

As predicted Cats to win how they like. They'll either choose to cruise home or smash them by 10 goals, just depends what mood they're in.

The embarrassing fact isn't fantasies about how bad Geelong and Brisbane are..its how bad the Dee's are for not winning

Well hopefully Fagan can recreate his magic at half time like last week.

But gee watching Geelong they are just free everywhere and watching them kick it into there forward line where they spread and not have 3 talls all jump for it.

But I fear this game is going to turn boring. I think the queens coffin watching will be more interesting.

Gives them a run up start against the Pies or Swans who will likely smash each other for four quarters

Coach Fagan is too decent to be an AFL coach

Hard not to be disheartened watching this.

Losing to this Lions side at home. Good lord.

BT'S analysis hits new lows.." this game could go two ways..

Geelong goes further ahead or the Lions will come back"

That's 10 nuffies and counting

😄 makes a great commander.

She's still saying how stupid we were playing LJ for the second half of the season.  Reckons it was like giving a pay rise to an employee who's told you they're finishing up at the end of the year.

Said he wasn't committed to the club and that's how he played on match days.  Should have gotten games into other player/s.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
