Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Fair call mate. Tough call

I do think baker took it and few seconds went by. Soccer handles the advantage rule a lot better. Footy to me seems inconsistent. Sometime they pay advantage and call it back which is crazy. Either pay it or don’t

Even worse, sometimes they don't pay advantage when a quick kick just after theh whistle is blown goes forward and is maked by a team mate.

People worried about Richmond as a finals threat should understand AFL in 2022 is a midfielders game. When Prestia went down before half time that was it.

Plus a very underdone Dusty Martin.

Looked a shadow of himself. I think that's the last game we'll see him in yellow and black.

yeah it was a bit sad watching him out there

Did Dimma say he was 80% fit or was it 8%?

Really was staggering that the Tigers didn't put a hard tag on Neale. Even if he still gets 30, each possession would be under pressure and he would constantly harassed. They had players that ran with him a bit but no hard tag.  I would love to know the logic behind this.  From the first bounce it was obvious he was on.  When i saw him in the 3rd Q at a stoppage with no-one within 5m I could not believe it.  15 clearances...

Amazing that Brisbane won that game. They just didn't seem to play that well. That chain (highlighted by the commentators) in the last where Richmond kicked short along the boundary to uncontested marks all the way from full back to inside 50 and for a goal was shocking. We allowed a bit of that during the season...really hope that's all behind us now!

given many gave nankervis as toiges best player, the loss of mcinerney so early was also huge

These video reviews are worse than useless until they get the technology right (if ever).    Why is so much weight given to reviewing a kick for goal when a similar review of a free kick paid in the goal square is not?

Both can affect the result equally.  I say don't do either until the technology is up to it.  (Which for free kicks would be a reliable AI algorithm using multiple views, i.e. it will never be viable).

Until then rely on the umpire. They make mistakes all over the ground, often affecting the score, so why treat the shots at goal differently.  The answer seems to be 'just because we can'.  But the AFL can't yet.

Whilst the game was high scoring and some great goals were kicked I thought overall the skill level was low. Richmond have had their time at the top and are now in decline. Full credit to the Lions, I didn’t tip them and don’t rate them as a threat and last night did nothing to change my view.

Agree 100%.  Despite multiple lead changes and the closeness, I didn't think it was a great game.  Riddled with errors and unaccountable football.  It is only being called "one of the great finals" because of those lead changes, controversies etc.  I think people will see real finals games tonight and Geel v Pies.

Suicidal. David King bangs on every week about not getting beaten by what you know and they just let Neale have a free run at it most of the game. Losing Prestia may have hurt their structure a bit but in this situation you need to limit the damage.

I'm not sure why this is considering some players sometimes blatantly lie that they touched the ball.

According to the article in the Age, they even have a hit list of whom not to believe:

Not sure that is appropriate.

What a win - dees are in the prelim baby!!!

A great result, particularly for Melbourne. I can't see Brisbane beating Melbourne, especially without the Big O. Sydney will be happy too, although Richmond at the SCG wasn't as big a threat as Richmond atthe MCG.

Couldn't have scripted a better way for Richmond to get dumped out of the finals. Sydney v Brisbane next week at the SCG should be another cracker.

I think it was  ridiculous for all the so-called experts to be saying Richmond was a Premiership threat. I accept the pre-Finals bye helps the 5th-8th teams but one team out of those teams have won a Premiership since the current finals system was introduced in 2000.

13 hours ago, Maldonboy38 said:

That is one of the most ridiculous and remarkable finals I can remember. I'm OK with the score review - Lynch hung his head knowing he missed it.

But with that defensive effort from both teams, the winners won't get another step forward into the finals series.

Agreed. Even if Richmond had won, on last night's defensive effort they wouldn't have beaten either Melbourne or Sydney next week.

Yeah, I don’t doubt the result - but the process was a disaster for the AFL. Why have goal umpires at all if a guy without clear vision of it on replay can overturn it?

The vision to overturn was clearly inconclusive - therefore umpires call.

Well, the AFL has come out and said it was conclusive. Over the top of the post is conclusively a point. Clearely Lynch thought he'd missed it.

I don't think players claims or celebrations or lack thereof should come into account.

Ask the opinion of the umpire and that can include other umpires but go by the visual or audio (snickometer) evidence and if it is insufficient then revert to the umpires call.

Whether Lynch's kick was a goal or not the umpire called it goal, the evidence was insufficient to prove either way so the umpire's call whether right or wrong must stand.

In any event they need to invest in better technology in the future so that this type of decision does not cost a team a flag.

It would be a simple fix with cameras in the top of the post looking directly up. Regardless of the angle that the ball comes in, you can tell which side of the post it’s going 🤷🏻‍♂️

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
