If Dogga leaves i'd take Draper for sure. Has all the attributes. Rucks well and can take a mark and kick a goal. With proper coaching can develop into a very good ruckman

Wright for Melksham - if we go back to playing two talls, Merrett for Sparrow, Parish for Jordon. Take Draper for ruck depth.

Who are your five at North QD?

  • Larkey - - > BBB
  • Zurhaar - - > ANB
  • Davies-Uniacke - - > Sparrow
  • Hornes -Francis - - > Harmes
  • Simpkin - - > Spargo

I'm nominating @WalkingCivilWar to represent Demonland as Hussler Hugger in Chief. We all have much to be grateful for today.

It’d be an honour, QD!

Speaking of, after Friday’s match a few of us waited by the players’ exit near the team bus. We draped a huge red and blue flag over the security fence and formed a guard of honour, of sorts. The players came out in dribs n drabs so we were there for well over an hour. (Langers was first one out and onto the bus, so clearly running is not the only thing he does quickly. 😁) We clapped and cheered each one of them.

When Harmesy came out I (aka she who has NO shame) yelled out Loveya Harmesy! He came over and said ‘Do you wanna get a photo?’ I says, ‘I’d prefer a hug’ and… I got both!

Then Clarrie came over to sign a couple of autographs for other tragics so again I ‘hustled’ and got a hug and a pic!

What most of us didn’t know at the time was that earlier that day Ryan, our illustrious leader was informed by the MFC of a self-imposed mini bubble situation to ensure less chance of players contracting covid etc. So that means as little contact with supporters as possible. The thing is Ryan was there with us but only mentioned it afterwards. I said ‘You should’ve said something! I wouldn’t have engaged with any of them.’
Ryan said ‘The boys chose to engage. That’s their prerogative. Besides, how was I gonna stop you?!’

😂

Harmes would probably take that as a compliment.

Pretty close to post of the year @WalkingCivilWar . Would love to see the picks if appropriate. I used to do the same in the 1970's. Back then, I could sneak my way into the rooms after the game. I adored Big Carl, Ray Biffin Gary Baker, Laurie Fowler, Greggy Wells and of course Tulip. Loved many of the lesser lights maybe not familiar to some D'Landers (Andrew Moir, Peter Hamilton, Spud Dullard). Always felt the guys were descent and respectful. Also gave me an appreciation of how bloody hard this game is to play at the highest level.

Please, please, please CBF, do not give them any good ideas.

Absolutely. Everything is totally wonderful at Windy Hill

”Nothing to see here”

  • Demonland changed the title to Ben Rutten Sacked

Outside of the first game of the season, this is easily the second best weekend of the 2022 footy year. Carlton now surrendering meekly. How good can it get?

Could you please do me a favour @Redleg? Next time Robbo says something, could you please translate into English and post on 'Land?

Your wish is my command.

I think Robbo said Hird would give the Bombers a real boost, an injection of hope, some real substance to their play.

Would we want anyone from their list? Wright and Merrett the only ones. Maybe Parish. But Merrett's contract would be too big now. Trainwreck indeed.

Merrett seemed genuinely devastated the other night that he waited to commit to the club when they turned the corner and then they’ve gone and collapsed.

Perkins, Cox, Jones and Draper can all play. Ridley’s excellent. Nic Martin’s a great find.

Otherwise it’s a lot of role players and not too many disgruntled established players. They lost them when Saad, Daniher and Fantasia left

Langford might leave, too expensive as a role player I’d imagine.

Tom Cutler’s one of those guys who has all the skills but can’t hold a spot.

Thanks Mate. As suspected, Robbo operating in the same universe as Derm. Truly no idea.

Lucky for Rutten. Leave a sinking ship and get paid for it too.
I would be happy to bring him to Melbourne if we need to replace Yze.

I can see the headlines now: Demon Army wipes out entire team with Covid. D’s forced to play their Casey side in qualifying final. DA leader places the blame on one “fanatical, but seriously deranged member”.

I don't care what they do as a football club now. They can cram it with walnuts for all I care.

Welcome to the finest club in Australia BENNY BOY!

DEES !!

Im thinking someone must have cursed Essendon after Sheedy left as they have been a rabble since.

Whoever did this deserves a big hug.

As for Rutten I would be more than happy to see him join the Dees.

While Sheedy is on the board they will be ordinary. Has far too much influence around the place. The pr-ck totally supported that moron Hird during his "What Ever It Takes" season. Hate, hate, hate this lot with a passion. Their club deserves to suffer for the next few years.

I think they may have over rated their list or at least where it’s at. Feels a bit like they panicked with the Clarkson situation and the media pile on and now they have to follow through. Stability is a vital asset to improvement and winning finals. They have none of it. Let’s hope they double down rather than clean out, for the good of the competition.

Of course they panicked re the Clarkson issue.  "After all, we are entitled to the best" and now they have burned their boats.

Now they say "we need an experienced coach".  Who in their right mind would go there?

MEMO: Mark Neeld is experienced - try him.

One of my mates who barracks for Essendon said that they have turned into a cult. He hates Adrian "Dodo" Dodoro and thinks that bringing back James Hird is delusional.

I said he is more than welcome to change clubs and barrack for Melbourne if he likes? Unfortunately he hasn't taken me up on that offer. 🤣

Anyway, I agree with others that if Adem Yze ends up at GWS or Essendon (preferably after this year's AFL finals) that I wouldn't mind the Demons considering Ben Rutten coming to us as an assistant coach.

Here's to the two proudest, stupidist football clubs in town. Well done EFC & CFC, sort your lives out.

Well Goodwin came to Melbourne saying that everyone he spoke to said "don't go there ".

Get Sheeds back to right the ship for 12 months  then mentor Hird.

What could go wrong...hopefully a lot

I know nothing about him @Jibroni, what about him and his philosophy works for the MFC?

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
