He is behind only Robbie as my favourite Dees player of all time. 5 Brownlows and 5 flags for Clarry won’t change that.

It would at least square the ledger but not likely to happen even with Trac  sharing some of those spoils.  The three will end up with Maxy ( who has contributed his own legacy as a leader and ruckman and greatest assistant to both in their careers ) as our greatest ever if 2 more flags and  Brownlow for  the greatest midfielders in our history.

Greatest ever Dees

Flower  All individual awards

Clarry 3 flags individual  awards plus Charlie

Trac 3 flags individual awards plus Charlie

Maxy  3  flags  individual awards Top 5 in Charlie 2/3 Tim and huge contribution as    3 time  flag Captain and in trio as most substantial provider for  Clarry and  Trac in their individual and team brilliance and results.

Honorable mentions to any Dees with multiple individual awards inc Charlie and  3, 4 5, or 6 flags.

Feeling sorry for Cripps??, Should not have even been playing the last two games, so no I dont feel in anyway sorry for him at all.  Look at the way he thought he was Superman, trying to take on all comers instead of using other players. Selfish player IMO

My point was Cripps lack of major game exposure and not playing with experienced successful players around him has, IMO, contributed to his performanaces w.r.t winning tight games.  He was just about BOG in our game, but yes he should have missed both games for sure.

maybe I'm just a sympathetic type unless the Dees are involved.

What! Clarrie got a free kick? Bulltish! Who, when, what, why, where? I saw a few cheap punches from behind, one kick, seven 'holdings', three knees into the groin and a deliberate trip or two - nothing remarkable for Clarrie - but no compensatory frees! I thought I had good vision across the entire game. What am I missing out on?

My psych said I was imagining it..

The other thing I did notice was that there was not even the slightest hint of hesitation as was in another game late on the .G

This has  got to the point of being inexcusable from the umpires.

Does anyone know when the Coaches’ Award will be announced?

Great question, is it the night of AA announcement or is that the MVP?

Thanks Dee Dee. I can’t find that anywhere on The Age site. Do you have a reference?

In my downloaded copy of todays Age, page 37 right under votes for the last round.                                States: Clayton Oliver (Melbourne) - winner  125.

He also got 9 votes for Friday nights game! Hope that helps.

I'm not sure Clarry wins it outright, Neale, Brayshaw well in the mix,

Could it be a 3 way Tie??

If Cripps gets anywhere near it it will be a DISGRACE, Should not even be eligible!

The thing about the Brownlow, (and I have a lot on inherent bias), that I really like, but I feel gets lost in the discussion is the 'Fairest' bit, to me it is a uniquely Australian distinction, especially from the Seppos. It goes back to cricket and to me the quintessentially Australian ethic, of playing as hard/well as you can, but not with a 'win at all cost' mentality. How you play the game means something. Now I am not saying that the Brownlow has always got this right, some of the winners have been door handles for sure. But as an aspirational goal, awarding the highest prize with an eye to how people handle themselves is something I can get around, and reinforces a great bit of Australian culture, I.e. a fair go. and not being a planker.

Clearly, I won't be right, but through assessing games by watching, checking statistics as well as coaches votes I have Oliver and Neale tying on 27 with Petracca on 26.

I have Oliver polling in 13 games, Neale 11 and Petracca 12.

I have Oliver polling 3 votes in 6 games (rounds 3, 6, 8, 10, 13 and 23)

Neale with 3 votes in 7 games (2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 19 and 21)

Petracca polling 3 votes in 4 games (1, 2, 9 and 16).  But I have Petracca potentially polling 2 votes six times.

Unlike others I hope Oliver wins.  It won't effect his performance in a GF should we make it.

The accolade would be well deserved, so who am I to hope he doesn't ?

It looks like Lachie Neal from the Brisbane Lions is slight favourite with Clayton Oliver a very close second.

I am happy for a tie with Lachie Neal but it would certainly be nice for Clayton Oliver to win the 2022 Brownlow Medal outright.

Anyway, here is an interesting article about it: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/brownlow-medal/brownlow-medal-2022-stats-preview-analysis-predictions-winner-favourites-odds-clubbyclub-best-chances-to-win-chances-of-a-tie/news-story/18524184fdd052236ef150723014cbc6

Good luck Clarrie! We hope you win the Brownlow! We all love you here at the Demons! :D

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
