Rivers take a bow, fantastic game.

You know if May wins his matchup but is still the lowest rated defender of the night we've had some sort of a game.

I hope he talks about forward pressure, and decisions moving the ball into the forward line. Absolutely elite.

Agree.

But of course, they're interrelated.

Good lord. Hard to pick a favourite stat out of that lot. They’re all (Bruce-style) delicious.

Best game in ages.
Loved the baulk on the boundary and kick to Fritta.

Absolutely delightful game...!  Told my emotional support German not to cheer too much until we got at least a 5 goal lead.  Very happy to spend the rest of the game celebrating!

You've got it all wrong.
You cheer from the start and give the team emotional support.

ANB was doubled over off the ball and I want to know who punched him in the guts. Surely there will be camera vision somewhere of the sniper attack.

Just as the mark was taken you could see ANB in the background go down with a Brisbane player next to him. I couldn't make out who it was but it was off the ball and deserves a look.

Yes of course - except I doubt they could hear us through the TV!

Still gotta send the vibe into the universe ðŸ˜‰ðŸ˜€

What a win not in my wildest dreams did I think we would belt them I thought it would be close. GO DEES

Yeah we lost that game, we won tonight

don’t  compare Oranges and apples, turn your lights off and sit alone wallowing in self pity, whilst the rest of us enjoy the win

No ones wallowing in self pity I'm not even complaining, exaggerate much. Even the people who may be and I don't think anyone is, only want the best outcome for the side, but criticise away if it makes you feel superior.

Looked, confident, assured and determined. Stepped up with the absence of Salem.

So I got t9 listen to most of the first qtr on radio before I had to leave.

so I’ve read nothing, just got back to my Airbnb, today I’ve managed to explore more of Czechia, do glass blowing (making my own red and blue mug) and drink copious amounts of beer. I’m now sittin on my balcony, it raining, thiunder and lighting going off as I sit with a beer and a cigar and ready to plough into the musings on Demonland. Everything I’ve seen on twitter and thought mate groups was a cracking game, saw some highlights. This was the ruthless Dees we all needed to see. Cmon sainters give an effort. Keep us in second!

Also very keen to see what happened there. Harmes really wanted to get stuck into Zorko shortly after it, made me think at the time Zorko gave Nibbler a cheapie.
I’m surprised at how little it was talked about especially after seeing ANB vomit, was caught on the big screen too as you could hear the crowd’s reaction.

Mighty impressive performance.

Trac was back tonight! Our barometer.

Loved the straight kicking.

Luke Jackson's best game since Gold Coast game.

Beating up Brisbane is a good feeling!

Clarry maybe a Brownlow vote or two?

BBB brilliant.

Hibbo's job on Cameron.

May' physicality!

Hunt great game for four quarters.

Rivers excellent.

Picking the best 6 players is really difficult and that is the way I like it - performances like that represent a whole team effort across a whole game - the team performance lifted enormously and merit points widely distributed at the expense of individual efforts and outcomes.

Zorko and a couple of other Lions really attempted any opportunity to inflict cheap damage to the Demons right across the game - particularly from behind when running past and in contested huddles on the ground. A great sign from the Dees was their ability to temper responses that might ruin our match and form dominance. That is the measure of 'mongrel' we have been looking for. A few apt responses in the form of direct challenge came from Viney and Harmes - and no Lion had the courage to anoint Tracca with a cheap shot, it appears. The ANB incident needs investigation in particular.

I had a good feeling about this game in the lead up days.
I was reflecting last night that it is not so long ago that at this point of the season the  only thing we had to look forward to was draft night.

This year like last we are in the action part of the season.
we can dare to dream again.

Go Dees.

Let's just all say it was  Zorko.

I’m sure it’s been said on this thread already but how the F is that not a 50 metre penalty against zorko when he put Langdon in an ongoing headlock after being run down. Even without the comment to Petty, Zorko was at it all night and , as a captain,  disgraced himself.

Lions played us into form  ðŸ˜‰

Though Sparrow did  well against the Lions. A few fumbles but his body mass usage in tacklings meant that several prominent opponents, when tackled by Sparrow, stayed tackled and ineffective for some moments. This kid is a bull and is getting very effective in this role - his responses with the ball are continuing to improve, as well. He is like a door-jam in our team for opponents of all shapes and sizes (and reputations), and it would be good to see his 'recovery' and 'distribution of the the ball' given ongoing coaching attention and development. This will be the marque by which his 'boomers' will shag other teams with his ongoing impact development.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
