10 of our first 14 games were at the G. I don't think we can complain. Collingwood only played 5 of their first 10 there including having to play at home to West Coast at Docklands.

You can't complain about "games against top 8" when the fixture came out no one knew Collingwood, Carlton, Freo would be top 8.

Fact is we sold a home game which is the reason we didn't play at the G since the Lions game. If we had a run of games at the G now we would have had fewer games there earlier in the season. We wanted a season opener against the Dogs, we have Anzac eve and Queen's Bday, we play two of our last 3 at the G both home games against big Vic club's - I don't know what the complaint is here?

There isn't one. I'm certainly not suggesting our fixture = our losses.

I'm merely pointing out that over the last few months, we've had a difficult part of our fixture whereas Collingwood hasn't.

I've addressed the sold home game earlier - three other clubs sell home games and none of them were given five consecutive games away from the MCG. That's an outlier which hurts us and comes in a year we're reigning premier to boot.

Just watched replay of the first half, so many wasted chances in front of goal in the 2nd qtr.

Hibbo directly coughed up 4 goals in the first half from mistakes.

Should have been min 5 goals up at half time.

Yep completely shot ourselves in the foot - and Collingwood has always been a side you never give a sniff because when they get some momentum the crowd gets behind them and they pounce.

Poor football as you say Dr.

If I hadn’t of seen the game and just read the Demonland comments you would think we lost by 6-8 goals!

It was 7 points - yes, poor to lose, but not all is lost!

Forwards have to tackle all game and we need to kick the easy goals.

Agreed. One key reason that we lost. Missed opportunities.  We dominated them and missed chances in 1st half. 10 goals from 41 entries. Pies - 8 goals from 18 entries. So misguided kicks to the pockets and easy shots missed. They converted more easily and kept in touch. When they hit momentum, our 2-3 goal lead was eroded too easily.

Ruthless? Salem’s quarter time miss from 20 metres out and resulting gigglefest told me “we are definitely not hungry as we should be”.

Did anyone else avoid there Collingwood supporting friends today if you have any pies friends?  I had a friend who texted me saying I can't believe we got away with another close one then proceeded to ring me.

I didn't answer because I just did not want to go on about the game

As usual over the last few years, we are fine when we have the game on our terms, but we struggle with opposition countermeasures. Are we prepared for contingencies? Do we have too many role players who work really hard, but lack natural ability? Then again, all would be fine if we could make more of out I50s. (Although I worry that we over-commit to defence at the expense of attack.)

Yes correct re role players, too many cakes but not enough icing. We lack players with natural flair and a bit of avent guarde. Time to bite the bullet and play Joel Smith forward. I also though Clarry almost back to his best!

I also hated that Salem gigglefest, i would drop him on just that aspect. I almost threw the remote at the T.V at that point, I was that ropeable🤯

They are also uber sensitive about anyone saying they won't win the flag. So insecure.

Pretty easy to run over literally one player.it was more like a Bully tactic to me and should not have been condoned and MFC should, I hope, have written to the AFL about it. Just my opinion.

We ate humble pie then CYB. Twice in one year, to the old enemy. They laughed and made a mockery of us as well because one of our players couldn't keep their mouth shut.

It, fricken, sucks.

I'd also add that we couldn't square up for Maxy and how those Collingwood plonkers jeered him off the field last time when he was injured.

That [censored] me off no end and to think we haven't gotten payback for that annoys me no end.

Gee we really need a BIG ...mountain like player.....like a Hawkins up fwd.

Like Tmac when he was at his best.

Maybe he will be the key come finals.

Unless He is more injured than I know?

If he and Bbb can get back in form and we are top four and seasons end then maybe one can still dream.

But it's also the defence as well.

Bowie not playing...Salem not playing at last year's level..May not at his best either.

I'm trying to stay positive but we need a lot of change in such a short window of opportunity.

We deserve a flag at our home ground despite winning last year.

On the plus side most losses have been by a bees ..um..whisker.

I went with my wife to this game.  She is 50:50 about football and I certainly chose the wrong game to attend. She is a harsh critic and picked out poor old Max to critique.  Max did not let her down with his goal kicking efforts and his general slowing of the play after a mark.  His pathetic attempt at a checkside kick at goal when he should have handballed to players in the clear was not great  for a captain and then to laugh about it as well, topped it off. It seems it's a joke to miss goals at the Demons, aka Salem.

The second problem was the Magpie crowd screaming for BALL every time a Demon was in possession and the umpires falling for it in critical areas of the ground namely in front of the Pies goal.  We had a particularly annoying group of Magpie supporters behind us in Bay 53 Level4 calling out, Brown you vegan "F..K" every time he went near the ball..

To me the disappointment of this result on Friday night sits second behind the 87 preliminary final which we also should have won.

TMac won't get back but speaking of Hawkins, who is my second least favourite player after Gaz jnr and both the Libbas( tied) , watching him him run the length of the ground to lecture the backs on structure made me wish we had a similar forward who would go to the mids in the centre  and let them know what was expected of them bringing  the ball inside 50

Neither Fritta nor  Raggity Anne  have the gravitas even though one of them pretty starts his run up from the centre circle when kicking for goal

Fritta’s now the only player in the league to have kicked a goal in every match so far this season.

So there’s that.

Just a reminder, Oliver's game consisted of 14 clearances and 8 tackles, with 24 contested possessions from 42.

What's the record for clearances? The bloke is an A+++er.

The other thing about the night was Cox coming off midway through the second or third quarter and giving it to the MFC supporters who were booing him off.

Complete arrogance.

I want to play them in finals.

It wasn’t his best game but it would have been nice to see a few other players working as hard as he did. Looked like he was suffering cramp at one point in the last quarter and I am not sure I can ever remember that before.

I see Carlton and can't stop thinking that's where the filth should be in the ladder, whereabouts.

Both teams have similar percentage, started hot earlier in the season with a new coach.

As someone has said before Collingwood is a statistical anomaly, anomalies don't win premierships.

What did he expect? He tried to pull a Toby Greene in a ruck contest (albeit his knee was out and not his spikes).

What an absolute clown. I remember as well when we got spanked by the Eagles in the 2018 PF, he was mouthing off about how it cost his family as much money to come over from the US to watch the GF as it did our supporters to go to Perth to watch us get walloped.

Let's just say I was bloody delighted when those mongrels got their hearts broken yet again.

We all know Melbourne is full of champion players (figuratively and literally).

Whilst the Pies are full of Fake thugs.

Carlton losing today now means we can't finish any lower than 6th unless Carlton can somehow make up close on 20% on our percentage.  That equates to about 240 points (40 goals)

What comes with that is at least one guranteed home final

Of course, if we finish 4th or better we'll be guaranteed 2 finals and we may well play all our finals at the MCG (if the cards fall our way)

So it won't be 7th or 8th

Our forward line was such a shambles. And what the hell is with continually kicking it to the same congested pocket, every bloody time? Needs to be sorted out ASAP.

Collingwood's forwards were consistently marking 20m out, no angle... and not just after a coast to coast break.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
