Not sure why Melk & Rivers are even named here.  Or Tomo but i'm assuming he's the only like for like replacement for Petty.

So we are most likely looking at...

Outs:  Clarry (inj), Bowey & Petty (H&S)

Ins:  Dunstan, Hunt & Tomo

JVR & Laurie very unlucky.

Zero imagination again from Goodwin. Expect same same result.

Does Goodwin pick the team himself?
Just asking!

This is the first time I'm genuinely baffled by selection. The only thing they got right was dropping Bowey due to poor form. I have to assume that Laurie couldn't be considered due to HS Protocols.

From those named to potentially come in, Chandler is the only one with consistently good form at Casey. Weid ahead of JVR is mind boggling. Dunstan comes in for Clarry, but his form has only been ok. Tomlinson comes in for Petty because all our better options are injured. Hunt deserves to come in for Bowey, ahead of Rivers.

If we go back to our usually structure then it's:

In: Dunstan, Hunt, Weid, Tomlinson

Out: Oliver, Petty, Bowey and either Bedford or Spargo

If we maintain our 4 small forwards, then it's:

In: Dunstan, Hunt, Tomlinson and potentially Chandler

Out: Oliver, Petty, Bowey and potentially either Spargo or Bedford.

I can't see any reason for Melksham to be included. The team without Oliver and Petty looks terrible on paper. I can't get excited by any of the potential ins.

And for you punters out there, Port have come in from $2.90 on Monday to $2.52.

In its own quiet way our season is slowly unravelling. You need a lot of luck to win a premiership, including with injuries/availables, and the Lady isn't smiling at us.

Ultimately i would think so Dee

Sparrow maybe but Jordon has been one of our most consistent, racking up 20+ possessions on the wing which is elite.

We’ll said Chook, Jordon has been great this year, plays one poor game & people want him dropped

Very Surprised that Melksham and Chandler were included! Also surprised Bedford and Spargo hold their places hopefully HUNT gets a gig??

Weideman this surely would be "Last Chance Hotel" would much have preferred Mitch Brown! A few on shaky ground!

The "Last Chance Hotel" must be part of a chain like the Holiday Inn. I'm with you, I prefer Mitch Brown, but JVR should have been selected.

This is a tough game for us. We are going to have to try some things around the ball and work on our forward connection on a fairly exposed deck at Alice. Be interesting to see how the boys respond.

Agree with much of your post 64 but IMHO Dunstan has been performing at (or near) a level that warrants plausible selection (possibly for Sparrow if he doesn't find some higher level consistency in the next week or two?) even if Clarry was fit.  Dunstan is pretty clever at putting himself in the right spots to receive and his handballs i would rate as elite.  Not as confident about his kicking but i did notice he found a bit of run last week which i hadn't seen from him prior.  Keeps his feet as well which is one area i'd really like to see Sparrow improve upon.  Sparrow goes to ground a bit too often for mine at the present.

Having said that, Sparrow on a good day is as good or in terms of the scoreboard possibly a better alternative.

I only read this forum.

Mainly for the comedy, the game day thread is entertaining, but the Team Selection wins hands down.

We won a premiership last year, we have had a few ups and downs but we are still top four

So selection must be do something right

AMD is in NT, maybe his housemate JVR is with him, prefer that instead of rushing in a player who is developing nicely in the VFL without any pressure.

Bowey is understandable, the extended bench predictable

Never thought I'd say this but petty is a big loss. He has been great not only the past few weeks but all season

Those outs hurt us massively.

Back to reality for bowey. Maybe he's just being given a rest or to find some better form.

Sunday is just so so vital for a win.

Who's AMD?

Which AFL team did you coach to a premiership again?

So as a fan, we are not in a position to critique? Particularly a fan of a team who is not in form… pull ya head in!

Don't know about unravelling but certainly not getting any luck. We'll just have to make our own.

Outs: the Ginger Ninjas; Clarry, Petty and Bowza

Makes us weaker on paper but the team is still strong enough to win imo

Surprised Laurie isnt in. They are not picking on VFL form. I expect the interchange to be Jordon, Weideman, Dunstan and Hunt. Worried about this game.

Picket Fence reported that Petty and Laurie were absent from training. One has to assume that both have Covid.

Might as well have seen what JVR can bring, we know what Weid brings.

I think everyone wants Laurie/JVR more out of boredom than anything else. I’d imagine stats show that most debutants have limited impact.

Goodwin will have been tinkering with game plan, with sides now clearly taking short options through the corridor.

He’ll rightly back this group in to have a crack at it with a tinkered plan. Settle everyone.

If Petty has COVID, we should expect more cases  between now and game day. You can only laugh at the timing.

All teams likely to be hit with covid next few weeks

Expected and best ins available.

Dunstan in for Clarry is a no brained. He’s next cab off the rank in the midfield and has been consistently good in VFL waiting for another chance.

Chandler has been our best player in the VFL over the course of the year. Surprised he didn’t get promoted after his 29 disposal 5 goal game 2 weeks back!

Bowey omitted for poor form a few weeks late, but at least they’ve made the call now. Hunt the likely replacement. Hunt should never have been dropped, and our backline (and team) have performed worse since he was omitted. Cannot understate how important he is as a small/medium lockdown defender who has pace.

You couldn't be more wrong. It's because their form at VFL level warrants selection, and the likes of Melksham, Weideman and Tomlinson have been tried and failed.

I have no issue with Goody and his game plan. But this group doesn't include 2 key pieces in Oliver and Petty. This is a must win game if we want to make the Top 4.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
