That top 4/5 is looking very crowded.

Take a wrong step and you could quickly drop to fifth.

Ruing that loss to the Pies

Very good chance we go through undefeated from here . . . multiple injuries to superstars and Mayfades excluded.

Carlton will be a handful.  Looked good today with some quality to come back in.

Freo loading? Carlton’s second halves have been terrible all year yet not today. Freo looked well off it against hawthorn at home 2 weeks ago too.

Carlton supporters are loud mouthed [censored]. They'll be wanting to make a space in the trophy cabinet now.

( Having said that , I backed them today and also have them in a multi)

I appreciate this forum is a place to vent for some people, and what really riles me, is that there is often vitriol towards umpires from certain posters.

Personal attacks wouldn't be accepted against any other group. So why these individuals? It wouldn't be tolerated in my house against anyone, I'd send my 6yo to his room, and if I spoke like that, I'd send myself to the room and give myself a good long talking to about respect, compassion and common decency.

So it's been bugging me that this forum perhaps doesn't sanction that sort of commentary (perhaps it does and I am not aware of it).

We can do better Demonlanders. #notallDemonlanders

A sample of EO when people were 'attacking' "Britney' 😉...or 'PRGUY17'

I’m not getting carried away with this result. Freo have been up for a while, as were we. I do hope the Giants can roll the Pies though, another team that’s been riding high of late.

Mate, it's a footy forum. And I genuinely haven't noticed that steady stream of vitriol you speak of.

Carlton are a big threat but how enjoyable would it be to beat them in a final? Watching their feral supporters lose their minds would be hilarious

Possibly, any side playing for Top 4 will have looked at what Burgess (and Selwyn) did last year. We were at Peak fitness for September and pulling away

Probably. They squeezed the life out of them not that long ago

I thought the umpires did a good job on Thursday night. They stayed out of the game, and only paid what was there (except the Daniher frees which I wasn’t sold on).

The issue is that umpires are the public face of the administration of a game that’s become far too complicated. They are there so people will go them in the absence of any alternative.

I understand the AFL’s need to want to protect the umpires, but the reality is the problem sits with the AFL itself. The umps are doing there job, but often the job requirements don’t make sense, or aren’t clearly communicated to stakeholders. If the AFL wants to fix the problem of umpire respect they need to simplify the game, and it’s communication.

Are we assuming that we were prepared to lose 2 of 3 to fall back to the pack  (should have beat Sydney)- so to speak... loading a bit earlier than the others...and then for the others (Freo, Bris, Carlton, GTown) to load at some stage and also potentially have diminished returns from winning... I'd think so also... 👌

I’m really hoping today is the day the sycophants in the media finally realise Richmond are well past it.

The ramping up of training drills is designed to peak at the bye. Then the boys get the rest to refocus. So I suppose it’s a case of “get what you can” during that period.
What i was worried about during those 3 losses was that our 3rd Quarters were flat, after a 20 minute break in each game.
But Thursday was most pleasing

West Coast get a win and everyone is excited

West Coast looked A LOT better against Geelong, I’m not saying their going to be winning on the regular but like a large portion of bottom teams they aren’t as they seem. They’ve had COVID rip through their club (poor management and attitudes perhaps) as well as a number of injuries to compound it. They have a lot of premiership players in their team, so when things get going they are capable of playing decent footy. Love seeing the bombers lose!

I’m not. I’m hoping they beat Geelong - and then fall in a hole.

Why are the Cats wearing white shorts for their home game?

Why are the umpires wearing yellow.

Not sure I agree, I had written them off, but ever since they got Balta and Vlaustin back in, they have looked a lot more likely defensively. A couple of the bastards are having Indian summers as well.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
