Need to fire up or it’s done. They’ve belted us in clearances and contested marking. If we can’t get our handles all the ball at the source then it’s game over. Credit to Freo for smashing us at the contest. They’re a quality team.

Midfield needs to stand up, they got destroyed in that quarter, someone need to put a rocket under Petracca

Unless brown or weiderman come good

Tell me you're not watching the game without telling me you're not watching the game...

Just remember Freo beat Geelong a few weeks ago. They aren't a bad team.

In some good news at least Taberner is subbed out injured

Even though we got well and truly smoked in that quarter, some of our misses are now coming back to haunt us. Fritters snap miss when we were on a roll, Weid's post, Trac's snap miss, they'd have us about par right now. I have confidence in us running over the Dockers, generally speaking, but aside from a burst in the second quarter, I'm not sure where it's coming to come from today, we look really flat, and it really does feel like it's going to be the loss that we need to have. I think we've been coasting for a long time and many of the guys really need a jolt. Maybe the loss will do that. A reminder that we are good, but need to be on our toes always, anyone can beat anyone on any given day.

I think we can win this. But we need to come out breathing fire.

Dr D or watsaname licking his lips.

Freo excellent and not sure if we can win it but we'll re-group and be better in the last. We're a champion team so we won;t give up without a fight. I'm sure of that

Come on dees

Nibbler should have had the shot himslef. bad decision

Wow ANB, we are low on confidence. That would have been the perfect start

Jackson's currency dropped big time after that display. Weid on the backline is a terrible move.

Big time. Hasn't played great for awhile

For all the TMac haters out there, things could have been very different after May's injury if he had been playing instead of Weideman.

Petty out of form. Tomlinson could be in line for a recall

Just about the whole team aside from Oliver has been for a few weeks

Interesting to see, have to attack the game now instead of trying to manage it.

That’s the problem, our system doesn’t really allow for that.

Bang, bang, bang would be handy about now

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
