Very harsh. Weideman played well against Essendon and Richmond and was serviceable against GWS and Hawthorn. He is a good player who is struggling to break into a champion team.

Just shows how strong we are with the depth of ready made players to come in and replace those hurt. Now over to you SAM. See if you can keep Tom Mac out for a few weeks.

I have been as big a critic of Melksham as anyone over his time at the dees.

My main criticism has been his lack of intensity, particularly in 2020.  But i have seen some really positive signs in that regard at in the Casey games i have watched. 

He is perhaps fortunate to keep his spot on the back of a pretty quiet game last week, but the fact he has tells me he applied sufficient pressure and played his role to a level acceptable to Goody. So, that's good enough for me.

It wouldn't shock me if getting him to 200 games is a factor in his selection. And if so, as someone noted, that would be in keeping with the culture of respect we have built. I think it was factor in the decision to pick Tmac for his 200th game ahead of Weed. 

That said there is no way Goody would gift anyone a game. If Goody figured he was not up to he job he wouldn't select him. Again, that's good enough for me.

I hope he has a ripping game and shows off some his undeniable A grade kicking skills. 

I think Melksham will play on the wing tomorrow. With Bedford coming into the 22, I think it is unlikely that Brayshaw gets moved from defence. We might play Bedford on the Langdon wing, but he didn't play there against North, so I think it will be Melksham again.

Would have given Van Rooyen a game

The Weid has had a lot of chances. He has to perform at a higher level consistently to cement a spot. 
That said he has done well with goal assists

But he needs more than that in this side

100% agree.

Weid will play his role as he always does.

Playing devils advocate here; Weid has averaged more goals and more tackles than TMac in 2022.

He’s been fine when he’s played and kicks his 2 goals a match routinely. If he played every week at his current output he’d kick around 40 goals a season, which is more than serviceable for a second tall forward. I think he’s judged harshly on here. He’s no superstar, but he’s capable at AFL level and could play all matches and do his bit.

It still baffles me why he signed a new contract with us and didn’t go elsewhere for more opportunity. He’s more than capable of getting a game every week at other teams. Guess he is hungry to play in a successful team!

The forecast dry weather and the fact it is day game (so little risk of too much dew), albeit a late arvo one, will help Weid's cause.

My opinion is he doesn't need anymore time. I think where he's at is where he'll likely always be. A solid backup option/depth player that can play an ok role up forward but won't be a game breaker consistently.

I think people just still consider his draft position and are waiting for some kind of 'break out', but I don't reckon that will happen, at least in a way where it leads to consistently great games.

It has surprised me all week that people seem to have forgotten how Tmac ended the game last weekend. I have little faith in the Weid, if he cannot put together a good game tomorrow after 6 years on the list he never will IMO.

I agree I like the Weid and I think he will be the next in line when TMac retires - he would be playing every week for Collingwood or Essendon.

I would be happy with consistent good games.

I wouldn't say lucky as such. He's had an unlucky run with poorly timed injuries, especially early on when they hindered his preseasons. The club would have him placed fairly among the group in terms of contract and expectations I reckon, so it is what it is.

Tmac has a contract until the end of 2024. Imagine/Hoping JvR has busted down the door well before then.
