Diamond_Jim 12,777 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/he-s-paid-us-in-spades-hardwick-gives-blessing-for-martin-to-shift-north-20220517-p5alxs.html Richmond coach Damien Hardwick says Dustin Martin has his “blessing” to shift to Sydney should he desire, declaring whatever Martin provides the Tigers from here is a bonus. Martin has more than two seasons remaining on his seven-year contract at Punt Road, but there has been speculation he could leave early and finish his career away from the AFL fishbowl that is Melbourne. Could be just what the Swans need Quote
Lucifers Hero 40,746 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 They mean Sydney the city rather than Sydney the club. But couldn't see Dusty choosing GWS over the Swans. Quote
PaulRB 6,435 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Add Dusty and Clarko to GWS and they might win a Prelim... 1 Quote
ding 5,126 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 I understand players wanting out of the Victorian fishbowl, i just wish they would choose a team like Gold Coast. Tthat way we can support their move but not worry about a new threat to our reign.... 😄 Sydney has already had too many breaks. GO THE COASTERS !!! ( as long as you stay out of the 8) 3 1 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,777 Posted May 17, 2022 Author Posted May 17, 2022 (edited) Buddy's contract at the Swans ends this year. He's reported to be interested in an extension. A Dusty move could put the cat among the pigeons (aka Swans) The flipside is that this confirms Tigers are resigned to a rebuild Edited May 17, 2022 by Diamond_Jim 1 Quote
rjay 25,424 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Why can't he go West so they can leave Jacko alone to stay here with us. 2 Quote
The heart beats true 18,201 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 If he wants to get out of the Melbourne fish bowl he should go to North. Nobody in Victoria ever talks about them. 2 2 Quote
faultydet 7,623 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 (edited) Possibly the greatest player in AFL history. Any move he makes will be a newspaper headline and a marketing tool with not much else behind it. Does not have a great deal of 1%er left in him. At least not for the fanfare it would involve. DubDee 26,682 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Could certainly see this happening. 31yo soon. risky but Sydney would take the risk. many teams would and if Dusty got a 4-5 yr deal he would jump at it Sydney would have money in the cap even with Buddy playing on Quote

Lord Travis 10,819 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 He toured GWS years ago before he exploded as a player and when he wanted to leave Richmond. After meeting him, GWS said thanks but no thanks 🤣 That turned out well for them! He went scurrying back to the Tigers and took a lower paid deal at the time. Funny how things work out. He became a superstar and then got a very big contract. Could see him finishing at the swans as a forward. 2 Quote
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Hard to read what Dimma has said and not think Dusty leaving or retiring is a MASSIVE possibility, if not certain 1 Quote

Collecting medals doesn’t equate to greatness. Carey or Buddy have never won a Brownlow so what does that say? Martin will go down as one of the most influential finals players ever. But over a career there are many ahead of him. Finals are important but not everything 2 Quote

KingDingAling 3,758 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 He used to play for Campbelltown before he came across to Vic Country juniors as a kid. I think Campbelltown would fall in GWS zoned area. Not sure. I know he lived in the place as a kid so not surprised he wants to head back there. Quote

He barely played a bad game for 5 years, dominated in big games and was the main reason a club won 3 Premierships. Take him ahead of all those you mentioned 1 Quote

Guest Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 With him, Richmond will finish in the 4th to 7th range (they have lost too much down back to win the flag for mine). Without him, they finish 9th to 11th. He makes that much of a difference. Either club in Sydney has shown an ability to embrace different personality types and would both work perfectly for Dusty.
