  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree with you about the AFL. They adopt the Donald Trump (ScoMo?) approach. The only time the AFL will admit a mistake is when it's too late to have any effect (as with Adam Goodes).

As opposed to the Biden (Albo?) approach.
Neither of whom know WTF is going on.
But the clueless will vote for them regardless.

McGovern not only waving his arms but verbally berating the umpire tonight for several seconds going unpenalised shows this “rule” up for the absolute farce that it is.
Did the umpire not know of the rule through incompetence,  is he so visually and audibly impaired that he didn’t notice or was he just to gutless to hand Melbourne a goal in front or a feral WCE crowd?

Looking forward to the AFL explanation 🙄

Relaxing the 'dissent' rule is a good thing https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-softens-stance-on-dissent-penalties-as-crackdown-has-desired-effect-20220606-p5arjr.html

But what are they thinking keeping it a secret:  "...but at the meeting, umpires were also told that this change would not be communicated to players, clubs or fans".

That is guaranteed to reduce AFL's credibility, if that was possible and create even more confusion for everyone on and off the field, when interpretation changes.

The AFL couldn't simply admit the rule wasn't working.  Instead they come up with some weasel-words:  "...the  AFL said it had recalibrated dissent and fine-tuned permissible behaviour to reach a common-sense level after the strict early-season crackdown."

I still can't get over being expected to play a so called professional sport where some rules are kept secret.

As an aside, it looks like 'common sense' is the flavour of the month!!!  A shame they didn't apply it to themselves!

It’s either a rule or it’s not

Now we seem to have the makings of Russian roulette - sometimes it’s going to be paid sometimes not

Common sense eh - for something that’s supposed to be common it’s a rare commodity

Are there any texts between AFL Commissioners, admitting the game is being ruined by the Administration they have employed?

It could be suggested by many observers and participants that this is an “immature and appalling way” to run one of the major sports in the country.

fwiw Brad Scott no longer has umpiring in his remit:  "Lisa Lawry has been appointed to the newly created position of General Manager Umpiring within the Football Operations Department."

https://www.afl.com.au/news/768093/afl-football-department-appoints-general-manager-umpiring

Maybe this reflects the fiasco of Scott's introduction of the new 50m rules for 'dissent' and 'holding up play'.  The former has been (secretly) modified and the latter seems to have completely disappeared.

Scott confounded everyone with these rules then tried to dig himself out of the hole by having a '5 bob each way' saying the umpires should enforce the rules but it was their discretion to decide dissent.

That takes the cake. You change the rules and you don't tell the players!!   Is it April 1?

So a player notes other players are not being pinged for putting their arms out and so does so himself, but foolishly lets his arms drop before raising them again and gets pinged and has no idea why.    I pity the players and the umpires having to deal with the nonsense that comes from AFL HQ.

The AFL is run by a bunch of clowns.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
