Let's not get carried away. we've played about 5 mins of good footy.

Another 5mins and it's a 10goal win.

When a player disposes of the ball to a teammate and try’s to run to link up the next play but is impeded by the opposition player it’s a free plus 50 metre penalty.

Didn't know that - thanks  👍

The. Commentator mentioned  the give and receive or the ol soccer one-two. But I never knew that was actually a rule.

If we have the ball and I'm about to give it to you but I can't because you're scragged off the ball, what's the point in the free? We already have the ball - hence the 50.

That's the justification - to prevent "professional" free kicks that stop the team with the ball from attacking.

Remember when we used to fight and shut down games and be like “oh my god we are a chance” and then the opposition would kick 5 goals in 4 minutes?
Good times were had by nobody.

I just presumed umpire abuse maybe

Must have been because it was soft to begin with and the ball went straight back to us.

It the AFL free kick flavour of the minute.

Rd 1 2013 they killed us and set us up for a horror season resulting in the sacking of our coach.

It's about time we returned the favour.

Still filthy that we had to sack Neeld because of them.

Yes I was there. I remember commenting to my friend at I think it was the 12 minute mark of the first quarter that “ gee have you noticed we haven’t had a possession yet?” And I think by then Wines ( who we didn’t draft against everybody’s thinking) had already kicked 2 goals! Have I got the right game?

I know it’s early in the season but it feels like the change in holding the ball interpretation has made it more inconsistent than previously. And the insufficient intent rule is horrible.

although our forward line has been stagnant, I have been happy with how Sam W has presented and taken marks in the centre of the ground... no different to a BBB role, it's the way it goes sometimes... perhaps a bit of late scoreboard cosmetics for him.

I know imagine where we’d be now if we had just got on the reality bus

Jackson is on, couple of key marks, backing him for votes by game's end.

Viney having a great game.

Anyone notice Brayshaw leading pre game speech/rev up?

Discipline is outstanding for a lot of late hits.

Nearest the pin this will be a 12 goal win

Everyone having a go (a couple quiet but need to watch again to look for team actions)

Even so, Weightman doesn’t do what Spargs just did and is hammered in here…. But of balance lad.

Sorry, I have been critical of Spargo milking things, but clear free. He does act but nothing compared to Weigtman

Did you see the runner after Tmac mark.  telling them to move  more around for leads...

Sorry if already covered, but can someone explain that 50m to Langdon for me?

I get the free for holding, but why the 50?

He'd passed the ball and was ready to be a run on player for the 1 - 2

Professional free kick took him out

They made that 50 abou 10 years ago

Wines out...did he get a touch?

he'd only been on the ground 48% of the time so I expect he had an injury that he was trying to run out

Overuse

To be fair, that led to Roosy, PJ and subsequently Goody.

They did us a huge favour

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.
