How about a 4 pronged trade result that went a long way towards helping the team win a premiership ... and maybe another flag or 2 as a result

With astute trading that covered a number of seasons we converted  Hogan, Watts & Tyson into Sparrow, Ben Brown, May & Fritsch

In the Hogan trade we received pick 23 (Sparrow) and pick 6 (May) We also gave up pick 65 (a negligible pick)

For Watts we received pick 31 (used on Fritsch ... still only 25 years old with 6 goals in a GF)

And for Tyson we received Preuss in exchange ... we later traded Preuss for a 2nd round draft pick.  And in that same trade period we acquired Ben Brown for a 2nd round draft pick (around about the same pick number as what we received for Preuss)

And that's apart from trading and nailing all sorts of other picks from the 2012 off season onwards

The net result is something that we can rightfully be quite proud of

Probably one of the best rebuilds on record ... especially when we consider where we started off - ground zero?

Sorry to be a Negative Nelly on the above, but in my life time that stat is at 33% for us which puts us down towards the bottom of the list.  The two losses were bloody abominable as well and as good a win as 2021 was, we'd still be well under 100% aggregate points for and against in GFs post 1964.

Need to keep moving forward get that %W/L record since 1964 looking as impressive as our all time GF %.  There's a new target to aim for.

To end on something of a +'ve, we have the best AFL GF record ever at Perth stadium or whatever the non corporate name is for that ground over there.

Some of the best trading ever seen and ever likely to be seen in this country, could go down in folklore.

I remember hearing that we won last year's GF with no 200-game players in the side. If that's correct, is it unusual? When did that last happen?

Oliver claimed the most contested possessions in a season in 2021.

He is currently chasing most clearances/season, with his current 9/game behind only Brett Ratten's astonishing 265 total in 1999.

It has already been noted that Gawn holds the 'most hitouts in a season', with 1119 in 2018.

Chasing;

Isn't that Brett Ratten season clearances stat about 100 in front of second as well? It looks like a typo when you look it up.

I believe Jake Lever had the most intercept marks in a season last year and therefore highest average (over 10/game?)

Since 2001 only 6 out of 22 reigning premiers have started 4-0 (including us):

Melbourne 4-0 2022*
Hawthorn 4-0 2014
Collingwood 6-0 2011
Geelong 8-0 2008
West coast 6-0 2007
Brisbane 4-0 2002 

If we win next week we join only 3 other premiership teams beyond 4-0

Ominously none of those teams won premierships, two made the GF one the SF (WC 2007). Nonetheless we’re in extremely rare air!
 

For all the upset around how we’re playing in the post-game thread it’s worth remembering premierships are rarely won by teams flying in the first 6 rounds, what we did last year is an anomaly. You can’t win a premiership in the first four, but you can lose your shot at it (see Port, Essendon and co).

Lets track this record, hopefully we join rare air next week at 5-0 and then we can try to tick off towards the modern record of 8-0 (from a cats team most consider one of the greatest of all time!).

Last time we conceded 100 points in a game. Round16, 2019 against Carlton which we won anyway. 53 games since without conceding a 100 points.
