Agree. What abysmal umpiring in the last quarter and what abysmal commentary. At one stage a Melbourne defender got a free from an obvious push in the back and it was called doubtful. This after 2 frees to Essendon at the start of the quarter from beautiful Casey tackles that were called high/holding the man (both led to Essendon goals). Having said that Casey should have won that game by 5 goals if you look at the difference in class (even without any Forwards).

    I missed the  start of the game and didn't see it but apparently we was flattened off the ball, came off and didn't come back on.

    Great game a joy to watch. Like the look of Rosman down back, brings him in the game. Baker gave us drive, Chandler played well and Daw did well in the ruck, the rest were pretty even.

    Howes looks clean and he has good pace and size. He runs on top of the ground a bit like Kelly from GWS and Gunston. He needs to find more of the ball but what he does do looks pretty classy.

    RESILIENCE by KC from Casey

    The Casey Demons showed great resilience as they withstood a late challenge from Essendon VFL to maintain their undefeated record after a dour struggle in gloomy conditions at Casey Fields on Saturday.  
     
    Following the withdrawal of Sam Weideman to the Melbourne side for Friday night’s AFL game, the Demons’ had their key position forward stocks further depleted with the loss of youngster Jacob Van Rooyen before the start and an injury to Mitch Brown early in the second term. However, they managed to find a way to overcome the sudden and unexpected lack of tall timber up forward with a combination of their running forwards and smalls and a solid three goal contribution from the veteran, Mitch White.
     
    It was a sluggish start for the home team which, despite kicking with the breeze, conceded the first two goals before Brown scored their first with a snap across his body after youngster Bryce Milford laid a strong tackle to set up the play followed by the leveller from Kade Chandler soon after. The Bombers soon regained the ascendency with two goals before Melbourne recruit Blake Howes’ exciting response. Casey was in a spot of bother as it trailed by a goal at the first break with Essendon kicking with the advantage of the breeze in the second.
     
    The Demons’ concerns were alleviated when Toby Bedford’s early goal in the made it all square again and from there, they showed their resilience, gradually getting on top in the middle and holding the lead from that point onward despite being hotly challenged a few times during the afternoon as well as having to find new avenues to goal after Brown’s unfortunate departure.   
     
    They were aided with some strong marking and conversion up forward from White and a promising debut from local product Roan Steele who kicked two for the day when they were badly needed.   
     
    The Demons seemed to have the Bombers’ measure throughout the third term and established a handy 17- point lead at the final break. 
     
    Fans would have been impressed with the class of Howes and the steadiness in defence of the likes of Deakyn Smith, Oscar Baker and Fraser Rosman, Oskar Baker.   They held together well when the chips were down as Essendon made its final comeback.    
     
    Jimmy Munro was solid as usual throughout the day and provided great strength in the nerve-wracking final term. Corey Ellison was also a force in defence as the Demons held firm in the final moments and vigorously protected their undefeated record. 
     
    Casey’s next encounter will take place at Point Gellibrand when it takes on Williamstown on Saturday night.

    I watched more than half than game and it was a good win considering Weid playing AFL and M Brown going down.

    Bedford and Howes look next in line, with Rosman a possible option as a rebounding defender. None of them are getting huge stats, but more they play with vision, energy and reliable skills that look AFL ready. I also like Chandler and Laurie but didn't rate their game versus the Bummers.

    I noticed that a week ago Rosman was being touted as one player to be delisted at the end of the year.

    About 12 months ago I made a observation that he would be a better player as a CHB with ball in front of him and finally the coaches have made the move due to the depletion of our defencive stocks at the AFL level.

    He is 194 cm which is close to 6 foot 4 and half inches in the old money, he was lost on the wing where he did not know where to run or man up due to his lack of football in the past 4 years.

    I hope they leave him there for the rest of the season to grow into the footballer he could become.

    For those who saw the 1970's and 1980's Gary Hardeman only blossomed when played at CHB this could be Rosman?

    Rosman is a bit of a conundrum. He has all the physical attributes to be a good AFL player, but his football IQ is low. On the positive side, he took some nice one grab contested marks, and is extremely quick for his size. He did a fantastic chase down from behind, but unfortunately was penalised for high contact. On the negative side, he got caught out of position in contests, and on one occasion when we moved the ball all the way up the flank, he inexplicably handballed to 2 Bombers players.

    The backline is definitely his go, but he needs to get better at defending and decision making to be close to consideration for the seniors.

    I'd persist with him, and can see him being another Joel Smith.

    I would hope the VFL launch a full investigation into the off the ball hit on Mitch Brown and if they dont the club should complain to the AFL/VFL .

    Simple answer - no they didn't and they won't this time either 

    I watched most of the Casey game and the number of cheap shots and blatant hits by Essendon players was incredible

    Given Casey's complete absence of tall forward targets (I don't regard Mitch White as a true tall forward although he played well) overall they did well to grind out a win. Anyone know what happened to JVR was the main reason for me watching ?

    I wouldn't be very excited about what their seconds have to offer if I was a bombers supporter - come to think of it their firsts aren't much chop either

    Very good summary. Rosman’s athletic profile is exceptional but he fumbled too much yesterday. 

    I think Chandler was better than has been reported. I don’t think he’s far off the AFL. He is better than Spargo and Bedford in the air and a much longer kick. 

    Daw, Dunstan and Melksham were all underwhelming.

    Half forwards in our Seniors need to be better on the ground crumbing from the talls rather than in the air. 

    Ten possessions from Spargs is 2:/3 goals to us either to him or more importantly as score involvements.

    Can't see Chandler or Bedford ( although I liked his effort in Round1) as better at  this stage after nearly 30 games  in a row from Charlie.  

    Too Many D/Lers regard only one or two good games in VFL as enough to change players eho have proven recorded over a season or more. Pressure acts are the other requirement and both Kade and Beddy are not bad. But Charlie is elite and Kossie best in AFL for pressure. I don't think the conversation should come up until both hit the scoreboard and pressure tests consistently. 

    Maybe a med sub at first also.

    Yeah, I get the stats, but it seemed to me to be his game didn't impact as much as others. Happy to be wrong but I didn't notice him much.

We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
