Blake Howes?

There was mention somewhere I seem to recall reading yesterday that said he was returning to the vfl - he was listed as 1 week a week or so ago.

Does anyone know the nature of Lever’s shoulder injury?  AC subluxation should be manageable, but a full AC  dislocation may not be. Presumably not a shoulder dislocation.

And anything specific re BBB? All it says is “knee” which covers a full range from plays, 1week, all through to bye bye BBB.

Joel Smithseems to have accelerated towards being able to take the field, hopefully not to sustain yet another injury. Could be handy as a defender or a forward, or even medical  sub.

From training photos:

Oliver

No protection on his right hand!

He got two coaches votes vs bulldogs playing one-handed!

Watch out Freo!!

Goodwin flagged in the postgame presser that BBB has a permanent knee issue.

One wonders if he'll see his entire contract through?

Agree. Brown had knee issues at Norfff. We took the gamble and it paid off. A premiership to remember.
Love what the BBB delivered in the GF but I think BBB will go through to end 2023 most likely. We need the succession planning to happen for JVR to come through for 2024.

With Daw retired, Mitch Brown likely to, Jacko probably gone, JVR not quite ready, TMac sketchy and Goody not being a fan of Weid, it definitely gives a lot more context to why we've been chasing so many key forwards. Could be a big issue next year.

I wouldn’t mind a Fogarty type player to help fill the void someone with a it of mongrel to hand out a bit of hurt. JVR might have to come into the mix earlier to take the second or third tall. We put a lot of our eggs into LJ it’s really going to hurt our list if he walks out, we really need to keep playing Weid for the rest of the year. Preferably at CHF.

We must try Joel Smith in F50 - hopefully he can get on the park and stay there

Yes Sydee he would be very handy in F50 right now if he were fully fit, even Howes if fit.

Anyone else find it strange that there's no official injury list available despite the fact that the team trained yesterday?

Main training session was today Chelly, might get released soon.

Good to see Joel Smith available .

He was good for us early this year. Still not sure his best position but is very versatile. At a minimum he is a better sub option than Bedford, thommo and others who have been sub this year

Could be very handy up forward/back. Hope he gets a gig soon.

Petty forward, JVR back?

Both fwd

I'd persist with Tommo back

Health wise we have Rosman and TMac our only long term injuries with BB requiring long term management for his knee. Hopefully Joel Smith and Daniel Turner stay fit and healthy over the next 4 weeks excellent depth.

We don’t have to really worry about pressure acts in t who ever we recruit . Because, we’ll you know anyone would be an improvement in that area

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
