Year of the Tiger

My calendar tells me it is the start of the Chinese New Year and is the year of the Tiger. Somebody please tell them it is the Year of the DEMON. Tiger has had his time.

For NFL watchers, the Cincinnati Bengals just made their first SuperBowl since the 80s and could win their first ever.

Richmond can get stuffed though.

The TAB has a "Year of the Tiger" promotion where you can get Richmond Tigers and West Tigers to both make the finals at $8.

The trouble is West Tigers are projected to come bottom 2 in the NRL.

I was born in the Chinese Year of The Rooster and my astrological sign is Taurus.

You might think this is a c ock and bull story, but it's true.

Well DS I was also born in the year of the Rooster and I am a well balanced Libran and I am surrounded by combinations of numbers adding up to nine. My birth date and year combine to 999 what does it mean.????

You're just short of being a grand individual?  Or you're an upside down devil worshipper?

Just kidding.  You're a grand Demon worshipper!

I brought this up last year when ppl were talking about number patterns etc. Since and including 1964 the Dees have only played in Grand Finals in the year of the Dragon. So I figured 2024 would be our year. Still might be right! Now I’m curious as to why the dragons on these guernseys. 2012 was the year of the Dragon so it’s not just a coincidence (?)

Richmond won 2 of theirs in years of the Pig and the Rat.

And to think I never believed in astrological hocus pocus.

Anyone who believes this smoke and mirrors stuff also believes things happen for a reason. What utter Tosh!  If you win tattslotto or get hit by a bus it is all random. Dont get me started on philosophies of life, death and most importantly winning premierships! Albert Camus was on the money. Existentialism is not neccesarily a bad way to look at things. Chinese calendars? Bah!

I think the dragon (instead of the demon) was used for the Chinese audience.

It was either that or we got rebranded as the Guangzhou Gweilos.

I was born in the year of the Tiger, which means this will be a year of good luck for me. So rest assured the Dees are going back to back and Richmond can get stuffed.

I was born so long ago I forget exactly when

Not quite. You have to buy a Tattslotto ticket and you have to put yourself in the vicinity of the bus to give it a chance!

On the other hand, I find it depressing that more people know their star sign than their blood group.

Full disclosure: I'm a Scorpio with A+ blood.

Hey Pickett I now begin to understand why I have always enjoyed your contributions.

intriduced to Camus at school age I have always nominated as an existentialist. I did adopt an interest in Chaos theory which nicely confused and satisfied me.

Agree with you totally on the humbug of not only Chinese calendars but an array of beliefs, but I do reserve the right for healthy scepticism and a never ending search for infotrivia.

i am of course much more satisfied with life now that I am recognised as a premier supporter

I spoke to my personal horoscope consultant this morning and he told me "The sun shines out of Uranus".

He then went on to say that the moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter is about to align with Mars.  The next bit was a bit hard to catch, but I think this is what he said.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
