With acknowledgement to NP, my source outside the wire.

B.Brown finished off drills well with his shots on goal. Sparrow was sharp all morning. Usual efficient work from Viney, Trac & Clarrie. Clarrie spent a bit of time one on one with Goody.

As usual 1st day back the newbies only did half the session but they all did the running with ease and have good hands.

Harmes, Gus, Lingers, Weids, Spargo, Hibbo, Melks, Rosman, Rivers, Fritta, all on light duties.

The running at the beginning saw about 10 groups spaced out around the oval. After about 2 or 3 laps, the groups had not strung out at all like I have seen in previous years!!

I noticed Gawny was in the red hat (no physical contact) on Monday. Does anyone know what's going on with him? he seemed to be running well, so maybe it's an upper body injury.

Maybe he is still recovering from that (possibly) game changing assault by that dwarf on 25 September? 🤭

Or more likely from hoisting the cup multiple times.

Lifting my arms to celebrate Bang! Bang, bang, bang leads to chronic soreness.

Long may it last.

Excellent thanks, I might possibly be able to get down to Casey Friday if all goes well.

I really, really hope that the groups were not strung out because the slower runners have sped up, not the other way around.

Sparrow is an absolute beast. After Jackson, he is the young player I'm the most excited about.

It doesn't pay to try and read too much into the second day back after the Christmas break LDC. Having just won a flag I find myself in the position of thinking they obviously know what the are doing, I will worry in early March.

If they are training there, they start around 9.30 AM

Looks like he’s got a sponsorship from the Tree of Life brand 😉 As for the rest, I fear he’s going for the Libba or Charlie Dixon, prison tatt look.

Let me be upfront. I don't like tattoos. Never have. Never will.

But if I did, I'd be concerned about the apparently unregulated pigments in Australia. This story refers to changes being made in Europe to ban some pigments considered to be carcinogens. It also points out that about one quarter of the European population aged between 18-35 has some ink.

Note the story refers to the possibility pigments are leading to "reproductive difficulties". I hope all our tattooed players stay safe and healthy, but just imagine missing out on a Luke Jackson son because the tattoo pigment affected his ability to reproduce.

PS: I wonder how many people with tattoos are anti-vax because of concerns about what impact the vaccine may have in the longer term?

Probably because he can wear it if he wants to.

  • POSTGAME: Hawthorn

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
