It baffles me that the clubs (not just Melbourne) force their players to run time trials on hot days like this in direct sun. Hey fitness guy, it will be 10 degrees cooler tomorrow! Why risk the players' health? Lever's collapse comes as no surprise. We are coming out of winter and spring. No one is yet accustomed to today's conditions. And there will be very few days like this between March and September next year. Really annoyed about this lack of flexibility and common sense.

It's not that hot today. It was probably only about 24 degrees at the time the fun run took place.

wondering how May has gotten on with his massive hammy tear. Anyone got any info?

Yeah that's what I was wondering. What the wash up with that was. Did the tear just repair itself?

Unless it was torn off the bone requiring surgery it should've healed itself helped along with some rehab/physio I assume

i remember hearing Burgess last season or the one before that, saying that heat was our friend - the hotter the better.

Obviously you want the heat training to be controlled, but it has been proven in sports science that this type of training can be extremely beneficial to fitness and performance.

what they should skip warm days? it was not a time trial, just drills.

its 28oC, they'll survive

Have you been outside today? 24 deg in the shade is more like 30 deg in the direct sun. If it was "not that hot", Jake Lever must be a bit weak or badly out of shape to collapse after his runs. And you can be sure that no player was treating the time trials as "fun runs".

I stand corrected on the distance but they were most definitely time trials, not drills, as per Jack Viney yesterday: "Ahead of the session on Sunday, midfielder Jack Viney said: "He [Griffith] wants to make his mark pretty early and he's got us training really hard at the moment. There's a bit of nervous energy about the (1km) time trials."

Whats with those man bras? Is there something scientific in why they wear them?

Or is it for scratch match training skins v jumpers?

<edit> Clearly not that - looks like Pink v Blue

They hold the GPS trackers in the back. Most have been too warm to have them and shirts/jumpers (plus what in-shape footy player doesn't like getting the rig out?)

Thanks. Didn't think about GPS devices.

Makes sense now.

After sustaining a torn ACL in the final match of the 2023 season Jake added a bit to the attack late in the 2024 season upon his return. 2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin
