Watch the last quarter bursts from the half back line and when he is tackle he handballs to himself and then retrieves the ball to kick down the ground, this is called awareness of your surrounding and being ready for anything on the football field.

You either have got this trait or not, Clayton has this in spades, Sparrow not so much.

I wasn’t around to see Hassa Mann play but I understand what a legend of the game he was. It is pretty exciting to think we could have another player coming through of that calibre to join a team already brimming with talent. I can’t wait to see what this team could achieve over the next 5-10 years.

TBH I can’t wait for next season to start and hopefully a full season where we can be at games.

I wonder if he will ever play in a loss.

It was deem a mark by the Umpire so whether it travelled 15 metres or less is irrelevant now but I reckon it went between 10 and 15 metres.

According to the umpire it was 15 metres. That's the only decision that is needed!

Earlier, somewhere in the mass of other threads and posts since '25/9', I did. Or rather, I described my thought, watching in real time on the night, that it had not travelled 15 but that I later realised, after the multiple replay binge, that during the change in camera angle Brayshaw added another 5 metres with his run and dive, from where he'd called. In that post I also posed that Bowey was intending to kick to the Brown/Daniel mismatch (equally demonstrating the smarts discussed here) to which someone suggested (probably quite rightly, and even better demonstrating the smarts) he was kicking to the space in front of it. Per the discussion above, I'm in the school of Brayshaw's raised - not pointing - arm, and whatever call went with it, having been for the handball.

Maybe someone will ask them one day?!

And just before he kicked he took a couple of steps backwatds to probably ensure it travelled 15 m and wasn't smothered.

Unbelievable talent and footy IQ. Find of the season i reckon. Still looks like he belongs at home though to be in bed by 9.00pm

Correct. For example the umps didn't change their mind on the play on call after kossies around the neck travesty just before.

Maybe we should be asking, being very technical, should it have been 50?  (As it turns out that would have spoiled the narrative for the night - just a bit).

I did! I reckon it might have travelled 14.9 metres. But given that the umpiring in that match was overall okay-ish and not as dire as your average AFL match, and also with the minor consideration that it was to the MIGHTY DEMONS' advantage, I will give the umps a pass. Just this once.

The stature of Bowey created an optical illusion, making it appear as if the ball had traveled 40 metres

He was out all night and when he finally got home, he told her a [censored]-and-bull story about winning a football cup, or something, with the perennial no-hopers the Melbourne Demons. She sent him to his room and he has to stack the dishwasher every night for the next month.

Like the way after the pass to Brayshaw one of the players gives some advice and he just nods like he's done it 100 times before.

It's the combination of excellent technique, spatial awareness and good decision making that marks out the best kicks (but it starts with technique).

That skill is why they were so keen to get him in to the team.

I watched the preseason game v the dogs a week or so back, and I'd forgotten he played. Same role and signs of that same package.

They picked him with a clear plan in mind. He was a gun mid-forward as junior. The dees had other plans.

The other thing I love about his game is he is aggressive in his positioning and attack on the ball. Looks to get territory.

I learnt this - as an interpretation of possible evidence - from Gus and Bowey during the Grand Final. I can recall yelling out to 'she who must be obeyed' the exact same words at that time from the telecast. Nearly spilled my beer on the sofa!
