Rest it for a year!

Although I would love to see Jonesy present the No. 2 to someone next year….that’d be pretty cool

Yep just not with us…

Harrison Petty. Dunno why. I like the idea of a big bloke in #2, it’s been smaller players my whole life.

On that note it’s weird to think, I’m nearly 40 and there’s only been four #2s in my life and only three I can actually remember - Tingay, Armstrong and Jones, and Flower who I never saw play.

Not in favour of retiring numbers.

The last premiership player that wore number 2 for the Dees was Alan Rowarth I think…played 70 games for us between ‘58 - ‘63

I am well aware why players get attached to their number or would like certain numbers but that is where it ends for me.

I simply have no interest in who  gets which or why. We just won the premiership what number a player was wearing means close to zero to me. But enjoy the topic guys and girls.

Or Stephen Tingay for me. Three great no. 2’s of my lifetime.

Stinga was an all time favourite of mine. Pre truck, Gawn an Oliver.

I think the number has to be rested for a bit until we are absolutely sure the next player to wear it is a gun.

Maybe Laurie might but let him play some proper VFL first and earn it.

Put it straight back into the rotation. The longer it's semi-retired, the more pressure it puts on the next holder to "live up to the number 2". No-one who saw Robbie or Nathan will forget its significance, no matter who ends up with it.

Agree.

I can't stand it when players "move up" in the numbers as if moving from 42 to 27 is some sort of promotion.

I'm firmly of the view that you show up to the club, you're given a number, and that's your number. Make it yours.

Our first draft pick can be given number 2, with no fuss, and we move on.

I personally would give it a break.

Sparrow has done #32 proud and I am sure Vagg would agree.

Barry Vagg was a great player.

Stinger also played a couple of years in No.15 as has our current man in 15, #positivelingers

Think Ed would be a very worthy recipient of No.2 and that it has a good history of being worn by wingers.

Sparrow if he wants it.

You can see from his draft tapes Sparrow wore 32 for both SA and South Adelaide before getting it at MFC. I reckon he already has an attachment to it

I actually chatted to a mate about this today, i'd like to see the number go to a player who shows the Nathan Jones Heart, Loyalty and courage.

So i'd like to see Angus Brayshaw run out in the number 2, his selfless season, and performance in the Grand final make him worthy of 2

Agree that he's worthy but hes currently locker mates with Gawny, don't think he'd want to change that to Mayzie and Salem.

Don't mind the idea of Rivers. Keep the backline together.

But would you want a new number after having won the Premiership? (The Premiership. Still can’t quite believe it.) Wouldn’t you want to retain the number you were wearing while you won THE PREMIERSHIP? ❤️💙

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
