Surely Jaeger O'Meara is worth a look?

Probably the only real need at the moment is outside polish and real class depending on how much his contract is and what Hawthorn will accept.

Maybe the Hawks will agree to pay part of his salary?

He's a good player, but I don't think we will have the coin for him.

Sounds like we will be giving Jackson a decent deal. Plus we will need money for guys like Rivers, Pickett and Sparrow in a year or two.

There's only so many A grade type players you can have on a list due to the salary cap and in the middle we have two genuine A+ players in Trac and Oliver.

Very vanilla, in my opinion.

Dunstan offers the additional depth and we didn't have any real expense to grab him

Very good player

but

injury prone

costs $$$$$s

we don’t really have room on the list numbers

we don’t have trade picks or players as currency

salary cap tight at MFC with younger stars needing extra $$ in future

so it’s a no ED793D07-ABE6-4D6B-96FD-1C4D8F2FA6BE.gif.fca1b4171f31ddc03a27ad922ddff0ba.gif

Yeah thats why I’m saying if they are willing to pay part of his contract

we are in the window of winning multiple flags, doubt any first rounder is going to give great value next season offer 1st round pick and they potentially pay 150-200k of his salary

jaegar very different to dunstan

did u see jaegar against us this year

was awesome in that drawn game

He is average or the Hawks would not be looking to off load him.

The Hawks off loaded Clarkson, I don't think they know what they are doing.

  • Whispering_Jack changed the title to The Jaeger O’Meara Thread

Jaeger O'Meara is another one of those footballing tragedies.  In his first years it looked as if he could be the comps best player.  Super agility,  speed and class.  Injury has brought him back to the pack.  He is just another goodish midfielder now.

Not for us.

12 contested possessions, 15 uncontested. 70% efficiency. 6 clearances. 335m gained.

He has a good balance to his game but I wouldn’t exactly call him outside polish and real class.

The Hawks player to chase if we wanted to really go all in would be Wingard. He can go between forward and the midfield and offers a bigger point of difference to what we currently have.

But without all the details I think sticking to who we have, taking care of our current players and keeping our future options open is probably the way to go.

O'Meara is a quality player but we don't have room for him.  He has never played in a good side so I don't think people realise how good he is.  Other teams in the comp should be going hard for him such as Freo.

I'm not against the idea of getting Jaeger O'Meara to the Demons. But I wouldn't want to give up more than a third round draft pick or to pay him much. I think he would be on decent coin at the Hawks.

Nevertheless, I doubt Hawthorn would be that desperate to do that and give him away cheap...even if they are having a fire sale on a few of their players.

We just got Luke Dunstan for nothing and Dunstan is one accurate kick per game short of being as good as O'Meara.

Expensive and unnecessary.

But at least I get an excuse to bring out my favourite picture of him;

I may be biased and one-eyed but I can’t think of one player in our premiership team that I would want to replace with a player from another club. To take a ridiculous example: if Dusty was available, who would we replace with him? Not Oliver or Petracca - they are as good as him or better. Sparrow? - Dusty is certainly a better player but Sparrow had a particular role as a blocker/pressure player which is a role Dusty could not play. Same with Viney, or Harmes, or any of them. Each player we have is perfect for the role they are asked to play.

Yes, it is a ridiculous example. I am sure we would fit him in somewhere! But a lesser player like O’Meara -why bother?

Strong No. Was at a pub with him once, very arrogant. Had the "look at me, do you know who I am vibe"

Def worth a look. Then put him back on the shelf and move on.

I'd swap TMac for Harry McKay or either of the King twins if you twisted my arm.

Wingard is the one I’d be scratching around. Has had his problems but he is a match winner.

Only on the cheap though because, well, because we just won the flag and you get good stuff for cheap when you’re the reigning premier I’m led to believe.

Fair call.

Why are we talking about this Guy??‽₩

O’Meara is a seriously good player.

But we don’t need him. We just need to prioritise keeping our current list intact.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
