What a brilliant deal that was.

Even funnier when you consider that the Crows spent pick 10 (along with another 1st round pick) on a 29-year-old Bryce Gibbs!

Gee, Max is good. Love him as our captain.

Exactly and why wouldn't any young aspiring ruck want to stick with him - and for that matter why would you give up the opportunity to play alongside Trac, Clarry and Gus (amongst others) every week

I've said it before but so far LJ has said zero about his intentions - it is the feral media (BT is the absolute worst - what a complete [censored] of a human being he is) that keep suggesting he wants to go back to Perth

Until I hear it from Luke I still don't know why he'd do that - a lot of people on here might look a bit silly buying into the speculation (a bit like the Gus situation)

Yes I know but it does go to show we don’t have the same value on him as Freo.

how do you know that?

Honestly what else is Max going to say when asked about Jackson and his contract?

Well if Max was confident he was going he wouldn't be stupid enough to say those things he would just say nothing - sounds like he hasn't made a decision to me

Does not mean he will want an extension but it suggests to me he hasn't made a clear decision either way yet

The same as everyone else and say he isn't sure, instead he did what Max does and say Max things. Good on him.

It's highly unlikely that LJ would nominate for the pre-season draft ... can't see it

He's coming off a flag, is well liked, we want to keep him and would pay him well.  And he's certainly not disgruntled with the club

It can't be assumed that North or the Eagles are prepared to pay big money on spec.  Their offers may be about the same as what our offer is ($$$'s per annum over X amount of years)

So if the big offer is from Freo only (which seems more likely) then we either get a deal done with them or he'll stay for at least 2 years

But Freo might do everything possible to get a deal done

I can see the club winning either way ... we get lots back for LJ or he stays

I don’t know for certain. I meant value in terms of money being offered to him. Lots of reports that Freo are offering  $950-1mil. Can’t see us offering anywhere near that money and I don’t want us to either. That would have him in the same pay bracket as Trac and Oliver and probably a fair bit ahead of Max, he hasn’t earned that sort of contract in my opinion.

I don't think that's in Max's character to say nothing. Max is going to say exactly what he said here. I don't think Max knows either way or anymore than we all know to be honest.

yeah, yeah.   don't believe a word you read in the press.  all they are interested in is clicks and audience share.  and stirring the pot is their schtick.   tell a lie enough times and it becomes the truth.

Mundy had another year in him, nothing surer that this is the first move in the clearing of teh decks to fit Jackson in. Wonder how happy the playing group in Freo is that potentially much like players are going to be forced out to accommodate 1 player.

Was leading disposal winner on Friday. This guy is ageless. Could go another season easily as they are on the way up.. More valuable than Fyfe at this stage of their careers ATM.

That's a spectacular nudge-nudge reminder from Max. Really well crafted response. He definitely anticipated questions and was ready. He's reminding Jackson how good he has it atm.

What is of interest is that Freo would be best served by retaining their 1st round picks for a couple of years and then chasing Jackson. In particular they'd  be well served by adding more key forward options to add to Amiss.

But a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush so FOMO means if he says he wants to play for them they'll want him now.

Max is just calming the waters for the rest of the season to make sure Jackson can play his best footy.

If he does go we can surely trust that our current list management team will already have preferred options for the deal and in particular for a replacement second ruck/forward and they'll have circa 700k-800k to play to use part of for the right option ie Amarty or Maclean from Swans as an example.

Just don’t tell the majority of Demonland posters who banged on for 2 seasons what a horrible result it was for us.
We basically got two gun key defenders which made up a third of our premiership defense, for pick 10. A bargain.

Playing under Gawn is the best apprenticeship any young ruckman can hope for and the softest introduction to AFL.
The grass is definitely far less green when you’re expected to be a star recruit at 21 and your only support is another young ruckman who is trying to make a name for themselves. It’s not going to be easy for Jackson to try and take time in the ruck from Darcy. Can’t see him being as generous as Max was in a grand final.

He could have played the straight bat and said he didnt know and leaves those things to the football department. The fact he said what he did is the most positive thing we have heard since this all began

"Luke's a talent and he's got every right, as every player does, to look at any offer that's coming his way, I'm pretty confident he's going to be a Melbourne player still and I know that's very far from what the consensus is out in the media."

So much for all that banter on Fox Friday night.

what's the chance mundy fronts up for cats next year?  right age at 37.

On a 5 year deal

Never really one to run with sources but I've heard from one who claims to have heard that LJ is flip flopping all over the place on this. Like a bit of a scatter-brain Jane.

And while I'm at it, it' pretty fair to say that Luke is never going to come across another person and mentoring figure like Max for the rest of his career.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
