Not to mention the disruption to the season caused by those two naughty boys.

The only disruption is to supporters crying about losing a player - the club is fine and would have plans in place for any scenario.

People need to relax. Seriously.

Whatever we get back for Jackson will be overs. We'll name what we want and either Freo get it done or he goes to West Coast.

Given the flexibility clubs now have with being able to trade draft picks etc, I don't understand why posters think Freo couldn't facilitate a trade. If they want him, they'll make it happen.

If we were to land Lobb and a draft pick like 7, I'd do it in a heart beat.

Then from there, if we had our eyes on a player in the top 5, we'd have the ability to trade up.

The possibilities are many. Everyone relax. Jackson is a super player but the composition of our list and spread of talent over a number of years is more important than holding onto a player like Jackson at all costs.

What, you mean like Cerra to Melbourne last year? If they don't have the draft capital and they want to maintain the players we ask for, it won't get done.

That said, I'm happy either way it plays out. I trust our FD to get a good deal for our club.

if it does come to a trade with freo, i can see it going up to the last 5 minutes of trade time.

it will generate a long frustrating fiasco with demonlanders going bezerk

i still can't envision what freo have to trade so expect it will get quite "creative" with a number of clubs involved

Since Jackson was drafted, Fremante have had 6x first round picks in the AFL Draft. The idea that they don't have the ability to compensate us is BS, they are brimming with young talent. It's just a matter of prying some good players out of Peter Bell's grubby little hands

The players have to actually want to leave Freo though. That is the hard part when they would likely be comfortable there under a food coach with good prospects in the coming years.

Given we're premiers and there are quite a few top Vic boys at Freo, pretty much all their A graders are Victorians, we'd be a decent destination if any guys were thinking of heading back to Victoria in the next few years.

I would love someone in the media to ask the question "how do Freo get the deal done?" It's all well and good to say they want Jackson or he has agreed to go there but he is not a FA and they still need to satisfy is in a trade. So how do they get it done?

Agree but we basically have 3 months to convince them. Most of these conversations getting someone to move across are a year/years in the making. If Freo are going to dig their heels in and say we'll only deal picks (think they did similar over Hogan?) then they need to find picks not just expect us to take whatever they have in hand.

Media would suggest Freo give us their first pick, say 16 and deal done.

Club will ask for Andy Brayshaw, which to me is the obvious explanation why Gus hasn't made a call yet IMO.

That doesn't mean we'll get him mind you, but that's what MFC will ask for as a starting point in negotiations.

Yet if Luke was at Collingwood they would be saying 3 first rounders or no deal.

Yeah that ain't gonna fly.

We should reasonably be expecting 2x top 5 picks. Freo need to come up with some kind of equivalent to satisfy a trade.

We know 2 top 5 picks are not possible. Freo will have to deal a very good player, a nice pick and a medium player to get this done.

The media were gushing over Jacko last year and saying he is a generational player, so he should be regarded as such in any trade,  if Freo want him that bad.

Yep, or feel free to go to North in PSD.

Brayshaw we have no hold on. Compensation will be lame too. In truth, we got Jackson in a bizarre down spot of 2019 and JT will find some good players with picks.

Geelong and Hawthorn lost Ablett and Franklin and still did alright afterwards. The sky won’t fall - just a bit sad about the lack of loyalty. But that’s the reality I guess.

Here we go again with the Andy Brayshaw nonsense. Gus isn't going to hold out until the Jackson trade is finalised before making his decision. The nomination of free agents occurs prior to trade week.

As a club, we've always been about getting deals finalised early, and then moving on to the next deal. Those thinking we'll get 2 top 5 picks are also delusional. Cerra had more runs on the board than Jackson, and was only worth 1 top 5 pick.

Our starting point will more likely be 1 top 10 pick,  a 1st round pick (this year or future) and a fringe player like Meek. IMO, that would be a good result for us,

One media pundit (I'm sure it was Barrett) actually said that we can't ask for much, because he won us a flag. And the fact he was previously pick 3 doesn't matter  ecause we've got our return.

Given this is the calibre of people working in the footy media, I'm not holding out much hope of a reasonable discussion on his worth.

I want Hayden young, caleb serong their 2022 first and second and 2023 first if they want brayshaw and Jackson. I'd be 100% matching any offer for brayshaw

Defeatist attitude.

A few demons supporters who can’t handle the fact they now barrack for a successful team/club, might need to switch over to North, and enjoy another 10 years of depressing re-builds

The suggestion is that Freo will have to lose players, deal with other clubs to get early picks and then on sell to us..

I imagine it will be Tim Kelly like, have to be a top 10 pick (Freo will need to acquire from other clubs by trading out players) Freos original first rounder (pick 15-18 range and possibly next years First rounder as well.

Jackson is 21, has 12 years ahead of him, this aint getting done for much less.

Yes and salary cap space.

But lukewarm on a fringe player unless they have disposal skills to fit into an MFC post-choko Premiership team. E.g. not Dunstan.  A big heart is less hard to find.

They should get something decent for Lobb. That plus their first-rounder starts to get into the ballpark?

Lobb's an early second round probably. Their first round pick allowing for priority picks is around 17-18.

No thanks

That plus a top five pick might get it done

Freo has to trade a very good player to get this done

The Kelly trade was as follows:

Geelong received: Pick 14, Pick 24, pick 37, 2020 first-round pick

Geelong lost: Tim Kelly, Pick 57, 2020 third-round pick

While there was no early pick involved, the points value for Kelly was worth more than pick 1.

Freo's current picks for this year are Pick 16* and Pick 72*, so any trade would need to include 2023 picks.

Jackson goes to Freo and they immediately become a Premiership threat, and our chances take a hit.
We must deal hard on this, which i am sure LJ understands

Otherwise he can stay with MFC or take his chance in the PSD

I’m not concerned about Brayshaw leaving. I don’t think he’ll be leaving. Jackson on the other hand, I’m a bit concerned.

Is that what I said?

Pretty naive to think the club hasn't already spoken with prospective clubs and begun negotiations based on potential outcomes. Do you believe clubs wait until 9am on the first day of trade period to start talking?

This has absolutely no relevance or meaning in the context of the discussion. What is even the point?

How will Freo get a top 10 pick this year? Why would we think a pick that could potentially be 14-18 next year would top off the deal?
