We revived the massive Jesse Hogan thread a couple of months back.

This one might have another lease of life in the future.

Even Voldemort got a brief re-opening

PS.. well well....300 pages !!!

👏

To you, too, @Whispering_Jack, for the precision thread title change.

Compare the pair … all class from Hunty

Why it's all class is because if you know ( albeit 3rd hand) what he thinks of how he was used  ,played out of position and the " coach" then the narrative is very different.

But that's what being a professional sportsman is ..what you do and say...not the " right" to get what you want.

Alright we made it to 300. I'd like to thank the team, well done everyone. You're the real lords of the dance.

I’m still scratching my head at how we lost a generational talent who was a top three pick and Premiership star, and we didn’t even receive a pick in the top 10.

We didn't lose anyone - he wanted to leave and was OOC, and in those circumstances, nothing you can do. As for the top 10 pick part, Freo didn't have one, nor any way of getting one.

Given all that, receiving two first-rounders + a second seems more than enough - in fact, if you're a Freo supporter, it's way over what they should have paid.

From what I can see, most independents view this either as a fair trade or advantage Melbourne. And so it is.

I gave this a run elsewhere but I think it still stacks up ...

He got drafted in a fever
Earlier than Hayden Young
When we were rucking Luke Jackson
We won the flag in 21
Now we've trade Luke Jackson
Lamby got us two first rounds
Watch out Luke Jackson
Don't let Freo down

Yeah I get the "points value" I just think its a fallacy and was being facetious in my post. Of course there are always diamonds in the rough but nothing really beats the quality you get with high end draft picks. Packaging up lower picks because they equal out points wise (based on what? A subjective AFL system to assist with FS/Academy bids) doesn't make up for the lost potential of a player like Oliver or Petracca.

Perhaps.I don't know that the points system is that wide of the mark in terms of players' value or potential. Seems to be a bit off in terms of those really high draft picks where you'd always take your player over any number of lower picks, but otherwise ...?

Equally, I don't know that picks have the same value as trade currency as they do on draft night.

Do you have to live close by to be close?

Nope, but you can choose to live close if you want. If that’s important to Dogga. No need to bag him for his choice.

Inept second half of the season.

You admitted you decided where to go at the bye.

Good luck in purple. At the mcg it's best if you play on the southern wing. The members aren't happy.

Second thoughts maybe pull a softie and miss the Dees vs Flergs (not [censored]) games

Can we now delete any reference to him on Demonland, including pictures and videos.

But I spent at least ten minutes working on this one:

Hand of God.jpg

Personally I’d love it if we were classy about our exited players. No boos, just let them be former players. He’s going to be around a decade and wasting our energy on anti cheering seems tiresome.
Might be a stretch but I’d enjoy. giving a reverse side of the banner in the first game we play the clubs they went to saying “thanks <player x> for your service to the mfc” and the number of games played or years on the playing roster. No need to be a club with shoulder chips. We can keep our focus on winning.

In hindsight, and as ludicrous as it may sound, it now seems that we should have traded him in 2021 after the flag.

To me it looks like with or without the 2021 flag, he was going back to WA. His values was the highest post GF 2021... 🤔

I was concerned back when Riv and Kossie extended their deals by 2 years and LJ did only ONE YEAR at that time. Ever since I was convinced this trade scenario was the most likely to play out, no matter what results or happenings occurred. Once he didn't sign early this year it was even more obvious of his intentions.

I can't be angry with Jacko but are very disappointed as I believe we treated him well. He thanked Melb warmly in his interview with WA Sportsday and I have just the feeling although he is wrapped to be at Freo now being with his mates may prove a distraction or it could help him go to great  heights as a player.

Good  luck Dogga you are a freak and 1 will never forget seeing you in the GF help our mighty Club break that drought and you become a Demon Legend.

It is possible to decide mid-season to leave but still perform as best you can until you leave. I think the injury he had was a much bigger factor in his average form than lack of commitment.

Agree BDA like about 8/10 of our players who the MC snd Goody didn't handle well during 2023.

I have not idea what any of that means. It’s a grammatical nightmare, littered with expression issues

But we may turn the picks we have into a top 10 player/s this draft  or 2023.

For 2 firsts snd one second and only Jacko and pick 67 it's better than most other draft picks totals, more than for Jake Lever who many Dees fans thought was "overs" before 2021 and May still.

I don't and think we will get our rewards back in the next 2 drafts snd be stronger than ever.

The writing was on the wall once he 'only' signed for 1 year in 2020.

I am confident that if the  MFC rated him as the unicorn, surely they would have offered a longer contract extension?

They obviously did. Kossie and Riv signed for 2 then but Jacko only one so it would have been the same discussion but a different result.
But yes the red flag reared its head then!

Wont be any easier along the southern wing @Hardley Benial, we are a rowdy bunch over here too

Just quietly, this is the best thread on the internets right now.  People wanting to delete his existence ala eternal sunshine of a spotless mind and bitter and vengeful like an ex that scorned them.  So good!!

Contracts aren't worth [censored]

Saw somewhere that fremantle tried very hard to trade up in 2019 to get him. Means they would have missed out on Young and Serong. Now they have all three.

According to the story it's nearly $1Million a year for 7 years

That's close enough to $7Million reasons to go elsewhere.  It's any wonder he seems so happy with his lot

So often it's about the money and all the rest of it is a furphy

But let's face it, a lot of us here would take the money (along with the opportunity to go home)

I'm giving him 2 years of injury-riddled seasons before Freo salary dump his bottom and he gets picked up by the Pies for pick 13 🤭

I just want to say that i was played out of position by Mr Williamson in grade 6. He had me at CHF when i was clearly a ruck- rover type player. I have never forgotten that.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
