I’d go pick 2, 26 and Darling For our 2nd rounder and LJ.

We then trade pick 26 for Grundy and end up with Cadman, Darling and Grundy.

I don’t think Darling would want to come to Melbourne though but who knows.

That has us going into next season with 3 ageing injury prone key forwards with Tmac and BBB and two young key forwards needing game time. Think we would be over correcting our tall needs.
We have other areas we also need to improve.
Agree that pick 26 seems about right for Grundy

I'm sure Jackson made up his mind half way through the season and the club was well aware of it, hence their meetings with Grundy, and I'm sure Freo and Melbourne have been talking trades for months such is the magnitude of this up coming trade.

Had Jackson confirmed his intentions in the second half of the season but pledged 100% commitment to the MFC in his final games for the club, he may have had some clear air and been able to play a finals series that consisted of more than two marks. He may have avoided going from premiership hero to a heavily criticised player in the space of 12 months.

Hopefully the AFL can become more mature in this space, where players can feel more comfortable in signaling their intentions prior to the season ending. The player and current club will benefit from this IMO.

Jeff White, Ed Langdon thoughts on those moves back home.

Referring to Jackson’s decision as poor and soft is I’ll informed. “ I’m a supporter who has a right”is a cop out, it’s like saying I pay my money to get into a game so I can boo whoever I like

You have no idea why he’s returning home, he’s given his all to us for 3 seasons and was a massive part of us breaking a 57 year drought.

I wish him well and have faith our FD will use whatever compensation we get to improve our list.

We applaud Vic players returning home and never refer to them as soft

As I have said on here before and even started DL's longest, biggest and best thread on it, there is only one player who left us who I have booed and that was not because he left, but the way he acted in leaving.

It is ridiculous to treat players who come to us as heroes and ones who leave as traitors. It is just the nature of the game and for those who don't like it, they need to get used to it, or follow another sport, probably not team based.

Swap Oscar Allen for Darling and I'm fine with this.

If he requests to head home to WA, not Freo specifically, then straight swap for pick 2 from West Coast should be the most even and straight forward deal ever conceived.

We get pick 2, use it at draft for Cadman (gun and Victorian) as a key forward to be part of our forward line for a decade to come. No go home factor. Best tall forward in the draft.

West Coast get their NicNat ruck replacement with a decade of service ahead as a top level AFL ruckman with a unique skillset to play other roles if required. Former pick 3, Rising Star winner and premiership player.

Win win for both clubs IMO.

Open to the idea of exploring Oscar Allen... do WCE and Freo trade with one another? Ensuring Jackson does get to Freo (if that is his wish) and we still get someone of some value?

I feel like the trade with west coast would be an upgrade on what Freo have to offer given the exodus already

Does anyone have two picks in the top 20 they would trade us for pick 2 that is fair and equitable?

Maybe not now, but deals create outcomes.

As an example GWS have 3 and 21 and will get plenty more via Taranto and Hopper.

They may do a deal for 2 with 3 and another pick for example.

We need two top-five draft picks or a top-five draft pick and a good player in return.

Could we turn Fyfe into a forward?

Fyfe? He’s finished as a force in the AFL.

Hasn't Allen been injured all year?

I can hear it already.

Gold Coast will be massive players again too. They already have pick 7 and should get pick 5 of Adelaide for Rankine. They also have 25, 31, 34 and a heap of later picks meaning they are a very good shout to pick up Brisbanes first rounder this year.

Oscar Allen is contracted but could be a nice fit for us and in the right age bracket.

We are not dealing with WCoast!

Unless Freo and WC do a deal !!!!

Nope.

was a pick 3 with huge risk. Has shown enough to be way more valuable than just pick 2 now.

be pick 2 and another top 20 pick or player.

There you go, the possibilities are evolving.

I trust JT and Lamb to be smart to get us a good deal, which on the initial look of it may disappoint some on DL, but eventually wins out.

Totally agree. It’s football and it’s tribal. So… thanks Jacko for being part of it in 2021.
Hope you enjoy going home and I hope you don’t snag another flag.
Pretty simple, you are now the enemy.

Yes I think it's ok for people to have THEIR opinion.

Just now, whatwhat say what said:

pick 2 would get it done

tbh, i would then hope to split with gw$ or gc17 who're losing taranto / hopper and rankine respectively

i want more midfield depth as much as i want a key forward

How can a pick 2 who may turn out to be a fizzer be equal to a former pick 3 who helped win a GF?  There has to be more than steak knives in addition.

Oh please. That is massive unders. I would consider that being totally screwed.

Just look at the C/V we have created for him and then precedents of Cameron and Kelly.

If we get rogered like that Taylor’s negotiating skills are zero.

Agreed. Future gambles in picks that might come good in 4 years may be beyond our Petracca/Oliver/Brayshaw window

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
