Farewell Luke Jackson

In theory would get a bounty for Jackson but I'm no longer sure that's realistic. West Coast can't trade their first round pick as they need to use it this year to satisfy AFLs rules.

WCE can trade their 'natural' pick, likely to be #1 or #2 as long as they get one back for this draft.  I see them trade their 'natural' pick for two first round picks, possibly two top in the top 10  Then they use the best +/- something else for Jackson and the other for one of the highly rated WA draftees and meet AFL rules..

If they really want to kick start their rebuild they can then trade up some of their later 2022 picks or 2023 picks for another 2022 first round pick.  If they finish last, they also have pick #19 which is highly valued because it is the first pick of round 2 and usually highly sought.

So they could easily have 4 picks in the top 20. There are 3-4 highly rated WA players in the top 20 so I reckon they will be aiming to max their draft currency via trading of picks.  Further currency if they trade players.

What would they give up for Jackson?  Would they be happy to wait two years to get him?  Who knows.

Yes all fair comments and there are multiple avenues around the AFL rules or that they would be satisfied with. Another posted highlighted the rolling first round pick requirements is designed around protecting clubs from trading away their future. As Jackson is a young 20-21yr old key position player that has a premiership and rising star award to his name, it shouldn't be hard to argue to the AFL that he would kick start their rebuild rather than hinder it.

As an aside, its interesting to note that only one team has multiple first round picks in this draft (so far) being the swans. As it stands they have pick 12 and pick 18, which of course came from us originally.

For Jackson, I would want at least one top 3-5 pick and another in the top 10. Even then I wouldn't be happy and would rather keep Jackson.

On the last para - it won't be up to us.  If Jackson decides to go and picks Eagles we would not and really could not refuse to trade.  If we did they would walk him to the PSD.

But I don't think it would come to that.  My observation is that WCE are 'honest brokers' as are we.  But their backs are against the wall so who knows how they would play a potential Jackson trade.

As an aside, if he chose to go I would rather he chooses Eagles than Freo not only because they have better picks but I think Bell is less than an 'honest broker' and like his Ess counterpart wants to 'win every trade'!  While the Hogan trade didn't work out for them Bell played a lot of games with us and their best draft picks.

But lets hope he stays and it is all hypothetical.

If Dogga does go home this year it almost has to be West Coast.  I can see West Coast keeping Nic Nat on for an extra year as a recruitment incentive to get him.  I don't think there's any doubt they will make him a massive offer and one far in excess of what we can.

The issue with Freo is salary cap.  Lobb might be leaving at the end of the year due to TPP pressure (they tried to manoeuvre him out last year).  I'm not sure that the Cerra for Jackson trade was ever a live option, because although Cerra would have come to us there's no visibility on whether Dogga would have gone to Freo or that they could have fitted him into their TPP.

On SEN Goodwin just talked very confidently about Jackson staying.

Thanks Lucy.  Great and wide ranging interview.  Gee Goody is on top of his game in the media these days.

Thanks Werribee. Agree pick 1 is exactly what we need right now. Midfield was putrid with sick Petracca and Oliver tagged.

What's the guff on him as a player this season? Has he had a chance to impress at any level? The reason that I ask is he seems off the radar in 2022, despite some very big claims about him in 2021 - has anyone been watching over in WA?

By the way Oliver's tag wouldn't have happened with Harmes in the side. I also think there were a couple of other flow on effects in that game against Freo which we had the "inside info on" but didn't use it.

Of course, that's just what I would want for him and not what I realistically expect will happen. I agree that I'd much rather deal with the Eagles than freo but moreso for it all to be irrelevant in a month's time when he signs his 10 year contract

The Oliver tag wouldn’t have had an impact if Trac was at 100%

Oliver sat on the bench a lot. The Aish tag is overrated, as Oliver was benched for 10 minutes after his great start, then benched again later on for a more than usual amount of time. When Oliver was up and about could Aish have stopped him? No.

Harmes, the most underrated player since James McDonald

For sure.... and Harmes back in will add the depth extra grunt factor plus a mid who pushes forward a fair bit.

Jackson has been underperforming this year has had only a handful of good games by his standards so far.

I wonder whether the drop in attitude is anything to go by.

I dare say if he keeps this up I’ll be starting to turn on all of this trade nonsense.

Kid is in his third year, playing a role most third year players couldn’t, coming off of delivering in a grand final In his second season. He is the cornerstone or our future. It’s absolutely imperative we sign him. If we can help Jackson see the duration at MFC, we stay strong for the next decade. A good ruck goes a long long way. Many believe a good ruck is a useless player to have. But there’s no coincidence the reigning premiers are heavily aided by having the leagues most dominant ruck man.

After Round 11 last year he had 4 goals.. he has 5 this year.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs Essendon

It’s game day and the Demons face a massive test which may determine whether they have what it takes to play finals this season. The task has been made all the more difficult without their Premiership Captain Max Gawn.

    GIANT HEADACHE by Whispering Jack

The crack in the captain’s ankle might be very small but the repercussions of the injury are enormous. The aftershock of the news that Max Gawn will sit on the sidelines for the next two or three weeks has provided Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin with a giant headache, not unlike the one he faced after the Kings Birthday when another Demon superstar Christian Petracca suffered his season-ending injury. That headache is magnified by the fact that Goodwin is facing a month of tough encounters a

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.
