The Dr McLelland Trophy is hardly a high profile award, but I think it may have been in the past. I have a proposal.

Nowadays it's  awarded to the minor premier, but in the past it was awarded to a club based on the performance of the u19s, Reserves and Seniors. First the u19s were abolished and then, later, the reserves was merged with VFA/VFL and the introduction of interstate teams made counting the 2nds performances redundant. Back in the 1970's you'd get 8pts for a senior win, 4 points for a Reserves win and 2 points for an u/19 win. The Dr Mclelland Trophy was the only thing we'd ever have a shot at winning!

So, my proposal is to return the trophy as a recognition of the performance of a club, rather than just a team.

With the introduction of 1 womens' team per club from 2023 we have the opportunity to return the Dr McLelland Trophy to a club trophy. I'm not going to propose a scoring system, except to say that the Mens and Womens should be weighted equally for the purposes of this trophy.

Maybe nobody cares, but I thought it was good idea.

you can't include Casey when WCE, Freo, PA and ADL all have their seconds in a different competition.

With the AFLW team win over WCE, the Demons remain top of the McLelland Trophy, clear of Brisbane by 4pts.
There are 3 more AFLW games to go, and if Mel and Bne keep winning in rds 8 and 9, the final round between the two teams will decide the $1m.

I can't seem to find a ladder anywhere though - I've just calculated in my head.

I saw it published last week and had the same thought RE the $1 million game.

Perhaps the richest ever game of Australian rules football?

So we can afford to drop one game, because either way we will have to beat Brisbane if they keep winning. Here's hoping Crows beat Brisbane next week and we can knock over North and Freo and then it won't matter in the final round.

Would prefer lions to beat Adelaide next week. Would help our chances of home finals and make our path to a flag easier.

Yep. Flags over prize money every day of the week.

Mods @Demonland, this could be merged with the AFLW Fixture 2023 thread where there was analysis and discussion of this last week: bring it all together heading towards 'The Mill'!

After this weekend's matches we remain atop the ladder. The top 4 all advance 8 points, leaving Melbourne half a game ahead of Brisbane, a game ahead of Collingwood and a game and a half ahead of Adelaide. Carlton now probably drops out of the race. Our percentage margin increases: Melbourne now 140.3, Brisbane 128.6, Collingwood 123.5, Adelaide 127.8

Last game v Lions AFLW shaping as the million dollar game. Tougher draw for the Dees.  Dees back at the venue of last years GF.

With that percentage difference, if we can beat both North and Freo we're home.

I'm afraid not, Old.

The women's games are worth 8 points

Right, 8pts for the Trophy, thanks

Nah 😎let Brisbane defeat Adelaide at home this weekend while we knock off North on Saturday to go top of the ladder.

Then in round 10, after beating Freo in round 9, we defeat Brisbane to become minor premiers, McLelland trophy winners and first dibs on a home grand final at Ikon….

How do they split cash, everyone gets a cheque for $11,000 - $13,000 (1Mil/~75 m+f players?) Coaches get any splash?

Finally The AFL has put up some decent Prize Money

Should have happened a long time ago

It couldn’t as the women’s comp did not have all 18 teams as participants. So the Trophy was impossible. This is only the second year it was possible.

Sorry your little dig at the AFL was misguided. Sure if you look hard enough and check your stats you can find another matter to embarrass City Hall!!

The club gets the money and will decide how to divide it up.

Sorry.
The Dr Mclelland Trophy has been around for Decades.
long before the Women’s Comp.
it was originally based on U19 Reserves and Seniors

There should have been a Pot of Gold up for grabs a long time ago
