POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs

Now finding myself trying to repress the urge to roar "C'mon Demons!" whenever I watch or listen to the radio calls of Olivers goal.
It's like an involuntary reaction that's part of me now.
How I'd love to relive that moment and feeling in real time.
Just so, not sure if the right word but ..... Primal.

You've got this feeling, you know it's real it's got a hold on you. You've got this feeling, you know it's real, that we're about to make history.

At the start of every season, I always (stupidly) pore over the experts' prognostications with a variety of feelings, mostly dismay that no one thinks we'll be any good and dismay when they pick us to do well because that's a jinx, but with an occasional 'We're better than that!' reaction, knowing deep down that we're not.

Not 2022. At the start of next season I'll glance at the experts and have two reactions: outrage, if they don't tip us as outright flag favourites and satisfaction when they do.

Not to mention the smug superiority we can indulge in, as these "experts" reveal the paucity of their knowledge about our team, and we can laugh at their predictions no matter what they are, unless they consider us a slam dunk for the flag, in which case maybe they know a thing or two.

Season 2021 was great and it's still not over in my mind, but it may be time to start salivating about 2022. GO DEMONS!!

Just the right word, Fork. I let out a literal primal scream, a sound I'd never made before, piercing, and entirely involuntary (scared my partner - and me a bit!). Funny thing is, I can't be certain it was that goal; I think it was - must have been? - and so I'm with you on your other point: How I'd love to relive that moment and feeling in real time. Perhaps next time(/year?😉) there will be the same moments and we can watch it all more mindfully and come away with better-filled memory banks.

We have 10 more days to savour our 2021 premiership on January 1st 2022 we become last years premiers and become the favourites for the 2022 premiership with no guarentees we will even make the grand final.

The players will have to forget 2021 and prepare for round 1 against the WB who will want revenge for the 2nd half fadeout and drubbing at the hands of the premiers.

Hunger for more success is good but satisfaction of living in the past is bad.

The good thing is players like Hunt, Tomlinson, Smith, Dunstan, Chandler, Melksham, Baker, Daw, Brown and Weideman all want a taste of ultimate success pushing all the incumbent 23 premiership players to greater hieghts or they will be replaced.

If players like Daniel Turner, Deakyn Smith, Bailey Laurie, Fraser Rosman and Toby Bedford can take the next step, along with the any of Howes, Van Rooyen, Woewodin, Mcvee or Moniz-Wakefield making an impact, then complacency will be subsituted by ergency amongst the group.

If we can have a virtual injury free year like 2021 and a little luck then we will probably repeat the 2021 success on the MCG in the last match of the 2022 calendar year.

GO Dee's

Don't forget to celebrate the anniversary of the Grand Final on the 25th, Demonlanders. Clearly the biggest thing happening that day! Remind any friends and relatives you're catching up with that it's been 3 months since the Dees' triumph. Perhaps a celebratory viewing of the last minute of the third before present unwrapping? A toast to Max Gawn? Break out the premiership cheeseboard?

We remain last year's premiers until the end of season 2022. Need more time to savour the pleasure.

The ABC radio call is my favourite. Dunno who the commentator is but he says "the Demons...they're seeing what paradise must look like". And that's about right I reckon. Certainly in my living room we left the mortal realm in that moment. It was quite simply the greatest moment in Melbourne's history.

I've posted a few times about the moment on this forum.
I loved Frittas 4th over the back of the pack to put us back in it.
And Browns mark 10seconds later holding the ball up high like he does and exactly what we got him for.
Petraccas all class little runner got the juices flowing.
Sparrows off a step I thought I was redlining right then ....... We were coming real hard for this game now.
But Olivers ...... Holy 5hit ..... The big guns are takin' it right here .... Right now.
I have the image below burnt into my brain like looking through a tunnel with my fist in front of my face just forken roaring.
Imagine that sound from 50 thousand of us at the 'G'.
Would've been something else.

I've come to conclusion if if Max missed the goal in round 23we would have still won the flag.

We only just snuck into being minor premiers which I dont think reveals how much better than everyone else we really were.

I also think if the umps were better than the Lions would have beaten the dogs and if we played them in a granny it would have been a lot tougher.

Anywho... I hope this season we really hammer a lot of teams.

I've been informed ( and quite rightly) by another poster that Bbbs main weapon was him taking grabs on the lead and then lining up for goal. That he was somewhat one dimensional as a forward.

Watching many replays I think that Bbb has really changed and now become very good at contested marking. He also roved and goaled more than once. And if not marking in a pack, he has certainly taken the ball to ground and added lots of pressure..

While he did ok in his goal tally I think his real value to the team has been the go player to chf. His hands were very strong and he seemed to take over the link up role Tmac used to be. A perfect example would be the dribble kick by Trac where Bbb won the contest via free kick on the centre wing.

There's a couple of broken St.Kilda supporters at work.
They've gotta walk past my 2021 premiers poster everyday in the canteen.
Reckon I caught one glancing at it today.
Would break their hearts 😈

I went to South Australia for a week to see my brother and his wife and try as I might I couldn't convince them to watch the replay. To make matters worse my sister in law loves classical music and whilst I don't mind it I had trouble listening to it for 6 or 7 hours at a time and after spending half a day with either Bach or Beethoven in the background I was about ready to slash my wrists sensing this my dear sister in law would throw on some Enya or whale sounds to cheer me up.

So after 7 days of this and missing the MCG Celebration and the replay, I got home yesterday and the first thing I did was turn the replay on and again today, I think I've wiped out the memory of my "holiday" over in SA but to make sure I will watch it again tomorrow.

So you don't like Bach or Beethoven. Poor you.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
