As if Jee-long would want a 22 year old.

Hahahahhahaha zero picks in the first rnd, dangerous indeed and not knowing for 2 to 4 years if the players are any good, good one Purple.

Not knowing for 2 to 4 years if players are any good can apply to first round picks these days according to some judges of draft prospects these days.

I watched the prelim last night. Geelong weren’t even bad. They just could not run and are so reliant on their older players. Literally their handful of younger players were absolutely putrid.

Also their game plan doesn’t hold up in finals, but it’s the only game plan they can execute with the age and lack of speed on their list. They would die after 10 minutes playing manic two way running defense like we do.

Yes, their talent is like the elves in lord of the rings; their time has come to an end, and they will soon move to the undying lands.

Which of course is Fox Footy.

Doesn’t apply to Jackson, Bowey, Rivers, Kozzi though 🙂

Oh Wells is dangerous alright...

Barrett should just give himself a week off if he doesn't have anything to write...

Sliding Doors: IF you sack some people ... THEN (afl.com.au)

Ok, so what is Wells record of recruiting (not father son picks) good to great players in this pick range (2nd & 3rd rounders)?

Is his recruiting mastery another of those AFL myths?

Seems the Cats have had a big leg up from Father/Son and trading along with some good first rounders early days.

Having a look through 'rpfc' original post, over the last 10 years Stewart was a great get...Kelly.

Very dangerous indeed, an AA defender and a mid who's no longer there. So one player.

But they could trade him for two 44-year olds. It's strategic.

Interestingly, talking to a cats staffer yesterday who had asked Wells after the prelim if he was aware of Fristch and tried to draft him. His answer was that we’d gone to great lengths to keep Fritsch well hidden. I find this response quite amusing. I’m fairly certain he was playing regularly at Casey, demonstrating  exactly the qualities that he does now, in the same role, and 3/4 of this forum knew we were keen on him.

Having said that, they did get Tim Kelly before Fritsch, but I’d have Fritta over Lachie Fogarty.

That team looking at a Cliff: your friend's experience with spuds should be invaluable...

jeelong's chance for a flag passed in 2020 when 16 minute quarters and 17 game seasons were played

and they failed at the last post.   it was only going to get much harder after that,

they've left their rebuild too long now and will pay for it for some time

hawthorn,  geelong, collingwood and probably richmond in the same leaky boat

loving it......schadenfreude

They might have to resort to this to win more games:

Wells was probably afraid to admit that no-one at Geelong actually knows where Casey is.

Even I could see that Fritta had AFL potential.  Sounds like just an excuse.  If he was hidden it was in plain sight.  Perhaps he had some baggage.

Can i say that I was amazed that a player of this caliber was still available so late in the draft (usually means you have picked a stinker).

FYI

When we belted Cats last week they had 1 player 21 YO or younger, Melbourne had 7. Great signs for our future. I think it will be 5+ years until the Cats, potentially, will be a force. Suspect Brian Cook (pretty smart fella) saw the writing on the wall and jumped to a list with huge upside - the big bucks Carlton would have thrown at him helps :) Mind you, he still has to deal with the most disfunctional Board in the AFL

Good luck making Carlton work. Have heard this every year for the last 15. It will take at least another 10…

I'm actually quite surprised that a team as old as Geelong (I mean the age of the club, not the players) and as successful as it has been recently, has only won 9 VFL/AFL Premierships overall.

The problem with Geelong doesn’t stop at it’s list, but off field as well. Cook may have been onto something… may have…

Don’t think for one second with the exit of Scarlett, Enright and Matty Knights - there is ‘nothing to see here’.

What makes Chris Scott tick?

If you believe the rumors, coaches and assistants don’t see eye to eye 👁

Let’s just say there was a bit of frustration in the last quarter of the Round 23 encounter in the Geelong coaches box. And a lack there of … proactiveness, much to Scarlett’s frustration.

Is it any wonder, Scott is now putting up his hand, hollering for a Ross Lyon!

A section of cliff near Anglesea on the Great Ocean Road has collapsed into the ocean.

The kicker is that the area is known as Demons Bluff.

Authorities expect further collapses to occur in the vicinity of Kardinia Park over the next couple of years.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.
