Well the team is as expected so the only mystery may be the sub. It will probably be Jordan but I would not be surprised if it was Melksham. Has a reasonable record over there.

I wonder if the sub is picked for versatility or if we know there’s someone going into the game a little sore so we bring someone in to cover that role?
JJ can play a few midfield roles. So can Melksham. I assume it’ll be one of them.

If Jones is named sub and we win , then I’d say bar injury there would be no change for the Grand Final, and the fairytale may yet come true for him.

That is true but we need goal kicking power as well. I am normally not a fan of Melkshams but I have this funny feeling. Maybe part of MFCSS.

Unless there is an injury hunt is no chance for the GF. Too bigger break now. Shame that he will miss out on a medal.

Geelong's brought Z Guthrie in for Parfitt. Their emergencies are Higgins, Fort, Simpson and Dahlhaus.

Over on Reddit, a few Geelong fans think Fort might be a surprise inclusion, apparently played well in reserves all year, but hasn't been named emergency Before. I know nothing about him. Anyone?

Edit: Ruck. Well that would be a curve ball. Prob C.Scott mindgames there.

Don't know if this has been posted on here yet: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/teams/melbourne-demons/afl-finals-2021-melbourne-vs-geelong-preliminary-final-mental-scars-2018-prelim-vs-west-coast-will-schofield-comments-news/news-story/22b7e75c5968ee20a3d0079db4ccd8d8

Will Schofield is a [censored] but the insight into how West Coast treated us with absolute disdain in 2018 is interesting.

Do subs have to come from the emergency list. If Hunt is right I'd have him as the sub. Can play forward or back and have impact, if we find our self in a difficult situation on the scoreboard and need to throw everything at it. The Geelong geriatrics would struggle in a 4th quarter chasing down Hunt.

Importantly I also like the umpiring panel of; Chris Donlon (1), Simon Meredith (21), Jacob Mollison (32).

I don't think any of these three are likely to blow the whistle for a "dangerous tackle" or " insufficient intent to keep the ball in" that isn't justified. Doesn't mean they still wont make mistakes but I don't expect the howlers we have had recently. I live in hope.

I'd be comfortable with him coming off the bench and icing a game with a goal like the semi vs Hawthorn 2018.

My gut feel is that Jones will be the sub.

I don't usually take much notice of the order of the I/C bench, but it seems poignant to me that they've listed Jones first.  This is on the back of stating Jones has been dominating match practice.  It would also give his teammates a lift knowing he's part of the team.  It also gives them the flexibility to name him again if they get through.  And going by his form it's not simply charity.

Fort on the Geelong emergency list is interesting, I wonder if there's a question over Stanley, Blicavs or Ratugolea?

Good to see you here!

They're in number order, and so is the Interchange, I'm  not reading in.

There was talk that Henderson was going through a fitness test today.

Playing Jones as Sub will be a massive gamble. Will be a huge liability if needed early and doubtful he could play out the game. Not versatile enough to fill any hole and slowness will kill us. Jordan or Melksham offer far more.

The AFL world seems to be Harping on about the fairytale angle. Maybe we play him as sub and the umps blow the whistle and award a free everytime he goes near it #FreeKickBulldogs !

Fort as an emergency wow they are already a big team. Surprised they didn't go for a running type.

Agree there’s a risk in playing Jones, especially if he’s called on early, but just think they will take that risk.

Rubbish, he has dominated at VFL level and will be cherry ripe if given a go.  His experience will be very useful.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Henderson is sore...

He’s been VFL standard all season as well as the last.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
