  1. 1. Hypothetically, we lose the Prelim. You've got angry, you've got sad, you've blamed Tmac and Spargo, and perhaps the umpires and coach....Time has passed - in the cold harsh light of objectivity - will you be satisfied with the Season of 2021

I'm happy and grateful.

@faultydet, you need too much.

A flag probably isn’t enough for you.

Enjoy the moments we have.

"You've got angry, you've got sad, you've blamed Tmac and Spargo".

You got me sucked in with that line.

Now I'll go and read the whole thread.

Happy Friday evening all.

No. Nothing in life is ever certain .... The planets have aligned ... form / lack of injuries  ...

Richmond ... won premiership in 1980. Easily the best side. Looked certain to back up in 1981 ... they missed the finals altogether.

Melbourne is easily the best team this year. If they don't win, it will be because they didn't perform on the big day/s. Get it done !!!

No!  These guys have worked their backsides off to get this point.  57 years and waiting, never be satisfied until the job is done.

I'd be bitterly dissapointed, we enter Preliminary final week with a healthy list, in good form and as the best side in the competition, any result other than a flag in my opinion would equate to a choke.

I think at the start of the year i would have been happy with making the 8 but when you win the first 11 games or whatever we did, the goal posts shift.

Seriously? Assuming we make it to the GF and then get beaten by a better team on the day...you call it "a choke"?

There's no way this current side will "choke". You've been reading too many articles about MFC v Eagles and underestimate the steel of this side.

Get there first, win or lose, this won't be a choke. It's a very different team.

There remains no doubt about which team is the best team this year. That is not only my op but other respected people as well. That said it would be a travesty if some outside forces prevented what is so obvious, reaching fullfiillment.

I guess that is possible but observations at a big dance require taking a big chance to not be totally impartial, and so be it.

The season has given me plenty already.

Two more wins, great.

Happy with small mercies, and accepting of failing to clear the last hurdles.

Best year, so-far that I have experienced.

The run of wins, being on top of ladder, winning the big games, our not give up style, players reaching their potential and exceeding it, plenty of media attention and MFC giving time to social networking through the internet.

Go Dees.

Glad you think that's all great - our team has outperformed most peoples expectations - they deserve credit for that

But we will never be the force we aspire to be whilst we remain satisfied with anything less than a premiership

Do you think Geelong will be satisfied if they don't win a flag this year - my bet is NO

We are footy tragics and we follow our tribe.

I have a mate who barracks for the Swans. When they finally broke their drought after moving to Sydney, he was on top of the world. A couple of days later, he was asking - " is this all there is?"

Enjoy the journey, people, because (emotionally) victory and defeat are the two sides of the same coin.

Regards to all and keep posting.

I am taking a selfish approach.

I am happy with our season.

It has given me joy.

Who knows about tomorrow, maybe, maybe not. That speculation will not destroy my satisfaction in this moment. I have enjoyed the ride so far.

Yes. it would be a choke because we ARE the best team in the competition, being beaten by a better team would require us to not play at our best, and likely close to it. i suspect we could be slightly off and still beat at least 3-4 of the remaining teams.

the only thing that can beat us at this point is injury, or our mental strength.

None of the other 5 teams are good enough to beat us at our best.

It depends how we play - if Geelong is a much better team and they beat us as we play our best - I can get it. I just don’t see how that can happen.

We have had a year of little injury and excellent form - these years don’t come around often.

The added benefit is no ESS 2000, BL2001-3, GEE2007-11, HAW12-15, RICH17-20…

Such an opportunity

None of us will be satisfied, the boys have us in a state of excitement and euphoria that we have not felt for 21 years. A loss in either the Prelim or Grand final will be gut wrenching and cause much anguish and be emotionally draining, I am not contemplating a loss But no doubt will survive. We are the Best but now we must prove it.!!!

Post more Rollo!!

Those wanting a powerhouse of a club deminish my support of a middle of the road one, over the past 50 years.

I have learnt that my joy should not be determined by winning (unlike some on this thread), but by my participation as a supporter,  riding the waves and watching our beautiful game as a whole.

Aussie rules, in it together, from local and upwards.

Absolutely, has been a fantastic season. We're no longer the league whipping boys. Making the 8 and hopefully winning one final was about the mark for me, and we're way in front of that. Feel like this year we've learnt how to win home and away matches, learning to win finals and go all the way might take another season or two.

No, if you don't mind.

Both Demos and Port Adelaide have very good opportunities to reach the Grand final, if we happened to meet them there, I'm so confident we can, we will beat them ( I watched the replay of the whole match of Rd 17 between these 2 teams last night). By the way, I'm a little concerned Cats and Dogs, they are capable to give us some surprises.

Don't agree. There's not much between the top 4 or so teams, anything can happen on the day. Not to mention, some will cope better with finals than others. I don't think we'll choke, but at the end of the day, experience counts for a LOT at this end of the season, and we're still a comparatively young side, with comparatively young players in key positions.

Interesting given the Cats and Powers win % is about 40% against top 6 sides, meaning they win less than half of those games, we just smacked the Lions, and we're operating at around an 80% win rate against top 6 teams and have won 5/5 games against the top 4 sides.

we're undoubtedly the clear stand out, the only reason everyone isn't all over that is because we're Melbourne

Underestimate Port at your own peril.

They’re on a 7 game winning streak which is 2 wins better than ours and finished only half a game and a bit of percentage behind us. And they beat the Dogs late in the year which we failed to do in round 18 and failed pretty dismally. Plus they have the red carpet quarantine free entry into a grand final.

It’s a genuine 2 horse race and if Port beat us in a GF, we tip our hats off to them and move onto next year.

We are the best team in the comp this year. So, we must make the Granny.

I can handle losing the Granny and still be satisfied with the season but to not make the final this year the way we have played would be crushing.

Lets look at it this way. 23 rounds to a season. We were in first place for 13 of those rounds and second place for 5. Footscray were next best with being in 1st 8 times. Obviously we were the best team in the comp for the year. To not win the flag would be devastating.
