  • Demonland changed the title to Dees interest in Jack Gunston

Fritsch has played the med forward role so well this year. Injury and age profile aside, do we even need Gunston? I don't think so

Just now, Demonland said:

We'd have a very old forward line.

Gunstun - 30

Tom McDonald - 29

Ben Brown - 29

So a few years with us then off to the cats you’re saying?

If he gets his body right I can see him playing good footy for us for the next 2 years.

Right in our window.

Can anybody name a 29 year old trade success story that won premierships after they've had multiple surgeries?    ........

Crickets....

It's just terrible business when we have spent the last 3 years being incredibly  savvy

I don't like this.

I don't mind recruiting for the now, but 3 plus 30 players in our forward line will leave a huge gap in 3 years time if Weed leaves (which I'd say is a monty). They may think of moving Petty there when Tomlinson comes back, but there are too many maybes in play for mine.

It's a no for me.

Nothing in the article is factual and the club declined to comment? Yeah well Tom with the disproportionately large large head, we’re about to embark on a finals series you muppet.

Stuart Dew came back from a year out of the game and i would think numerous hamburgers, moved to Hawthorn and won a premiership.

*Aged 29 when he mmoved to Hawthorn

If Gunston is fit (club staff would know better than any of us) and if we can get him for peanuts it's a good pickup to win now, which is what we want to do. Weid's gone if this does happen though.

Brown, T. Mac and Gunston in rotation is tasty, considering i imagine all 3 will pick up knocks.

Brian Lake won a Norm Smith and 3 flags.

He hadn't  had surgery

Was fit.  Not injured like Gunston

Don't think he was.

Articles mentions surgeries to hip, shoulders and knee massively impacting his final season at the dogs.

Still, examples are fairly few and far between and Gunston would be subject to an in-depth medical.

James Podsiadly? Wasn’t he traded to Geelong at 29yo? I know he played in the 2011 gf and I’m sure he was their leading goal kicker that year. But can’t remember if he carried injuries that required surgery.
But yeah, few and very far between.

Shaun burgoyne.

Not sure how cheaply he'd come. He's a gun when fit but I'm a bit wary on this. He's not a free agent is he?

Edit: he is not

He (Dew) probably needed surgery when he got to the Hawks - stomach surgery.  (When Clarkson picked him didnt he ring and ask if they had seen a recent photo)

Let's do a deal: If Melbourne win the premiership you have to get a tattoo of a cricket with Ben Brown's number 50 on it's back!

Surgery is irrelevant if he’s rehabilitated and ready to go. Also, he can play back, forward, wing, he’s just a terrific footballer. Multiple premierships and we’d be getting him for peanuts, so would be crazy not to take him on if he’s keen and fit.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
