Not sure there's enough time for that.  There's a bio lab just down the road at the University of W.A. though

Speaking of the G, we trained there today.

That should be our usual training ground DZ.... again!

I am well aware of the WA permit situation.

I read the entire thing 2 weeks ago. I bought the airfare for $300. It’s a flexi ticket. So if I cancel I can get a flight credit. At the time I was hoping the COVID cases would go down and hopefully VIC would be a low risk area allowed to quarantine for 14 days to enter.

After the price hike of the 2018 Prelim which I did not go to. I thought I would rather roll the dice early on.

Think I may need a team of lawyers of the Mr Burns caliber to find a loop hole now though!

R U an au pair?

I know what you mean. I may have to put some kind of time controlled pad lock on the beer fridge.

Just adding even more to a bizzaro year

I've resigned myself to the fact it won't be at the G and by some miracle it is at reduced capacity I'm not really in the position to afford what will be Astronomical prices . And if we are still in lockdown I don't give a flying F my parents and sister who I've been going to games with every week for 30+ years are coming over to watch with me.

Same mate I don't give a crap if we are still in lock down, if we are in the GF I'm putting on a BBQ and getting the family over

I hope I misheard but I swear I heard the local news in Perth say they will be looking to make  some GF tickets available to WCE and Freo members!! Any other Perthites hear this?

The grand final will clearly be played in Perth.

I can only imagine the slight hold up to officially calling it is that cases have kind of stabilised over the last couple of days in VIC and they’re giving it one final last crack over the next 7 days. The AGE have got a story online saying that there may be a degree of control over the latest outbreak according to experts.

Either that or McGowan has left off a few corporate fat cats, AFL execs and club directors off his invite list and it’s back to the negotiation table.

Exactly my thoughts.

Absolutely pointless twiddling our thumbs for 2 weeks and it gives the GF clubs a bit more rest before next season, after a shortened break for clubs last year.

What about the 7 day quarantine period as last time we played over there. I thought the bye may be after the semis to get four teams in Perth and quarantined in time to play the prelims. Or if travelling from either SA or Brisbane to Perth its more relaxed.

I think it depends on who wins etc. If Port lose then win their semi they will have to come to Perth for their prelim, same with Brizzy

I would hope that part of Gill's deal with WA is that McGowan gives special exemption entry permits for our Board, VIP's and our sponsors, if we play.

And for the love of God can they please include Barassi and Daniher.  If we win one or both of those guys need to present The Cup.

If I recall correctly the AFL booked out the whole Joondalup resort from mid August to end of September for teams and where, I assume VIP's will do their 14 day quarantine.

I haven't passed this with the MFC yet but I would be happy to take part in a recreation of the GF with the guys should they be successful? The medieval guys in the park look pretty cool.

I can do a pretty good "Dangerwinge" if Jack Viney promises not to bash my head in, any takers?

Let's say it was cats we beat in the gf.

We could cos play with the equivalent cats footy forum.

Though they may be less keen in the event of a loss. Wimps.

Maybe Andy should put the challenge out prior to the gf.

I don't see why we can't hold it and just make it for double jabbas only.  Don't open any catering/bars and anyone in the toilets / entry points masked.  1/3rd capacity with distancing.  35,000 and open it up to members only.   NO CORPORATES!  I know it's not this simple and we have to make it of course but no Harmes in dreaming a little surely

This - why can’t proven double jabbers only be admitted?
Medicare status is on my phone. Mandate mask wearing.

I'm thinking we will have an advantage over other teams at Optus.

  • It has similar dimensions as the MCG.
  • We played a final there 3 years ago so have experienced the cauldron like atmosphere.  iirc Jordan Lewis said he had never heard anything like it, not even at MCG GF's.
  • We have played about 6 games there in recent years.
  • We have won at least 3 times of those.

No other finalist has anything like that to boost confidence and belief.

So while we can't be there live I'm quite happy to have the remaining finals (after this week) at Optus.

I'll bet you'll change your mind if Oliver or Gawn get concussed in the Preliminary Final.

In all seriousness, the two week break might provide time for special guests to get to Perth and quarantine for 14 days before the GF. I'm thinking of people such as players' families, RDB, Board Members, Nathan Jones, etc or equivalent for other teams. (Should I be more positive and say "the other team"?)

Double jabs only would still eliminate people who have got their jabs as soon as possible, yet have to wait 12 weeks between shots. Like myself.

I’d be extremely peeved off if I couldn’t make it as someone one in this camp + premium reserved seat holder

You can bring the az forward don’t have to wait the 12 weeks.
Academic though, there is no way Vic will get numbers down in time. 80 cases today. 👎

I think given Pfizer has just been made available to everyone this week, they can certainly make the game open only to those with one dose and a mandatory test 72 hours pre game and/or a rapid test on the day?  And say 30,000 capacity?

It could be a good trial for things to come once we open up more.
But firstly we need people to sit the hell down and stay home and stop waiting so long to get tested! FFS Victorians be less dumb!

Myth. Not to over 60's.

I’m fortunate enough to have a large group of mates who are primarily Eagles supporters while others are Dockers. Pretty much all of them are on the red and blue train for the finals.
But I would be confident in saying the top 3 Vic teams supporter base in WA is Bombers, Blues and Hawks.
If the Eagles supporters (I loathe them so much) can bring the noise and support our boys it will be pretty epic in that stadium.
I went to dream time there and it was nothing short of superb.

Yeah I would change my mind if Oliver or Gawn got concussed, that's for sure!!

But as it stands, it would be nice to keep rolling and not have to wait 15 days between a potential prelim and GF, whilst many of us quite frankly have nothing to do with our lives.

On your second paragraph, you need very special permission to attend WA if you're coming from a medium risk state such as VIC in order to even do 14 days quarantine.  Suspect there will be some disappointed non footballing staff and VIP's that miss out if McGowan is consistent with his hard border and health stance.

This is the definition of optimism.

I bought a one way Flexi plane ticket to Perth leaving Sept 9 (with a 15 day window to the GF if it is on the 28th of sept).

I'll be double vaccinated by Aug 31 and I've told work if there's chance to get to perth, I'm gone!

I knew you were in a good place!!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
