Being in WA, this is nuts.

Please Dees, please make the GF.

I will represent you all.

I will eat 50 pies, drink 4,000 beers and make a dozen cheese boards.

Gillon on is naive in the extreme trusting McGowan - he who closed Optus as crowds arrived over one case.
Rather like Biden trusting the Taliban to let anyone who wants to leave Kabul do so.
Probsbly the most trustworthy would be SA or Tasmania (and better time zone too especially if he wants smother night match )

I wonder about how this works commercially? Has the WA Government had to make a payment to the AFL to be the exclusive "fall back" option or has the AFL had to make a payment to Optus Stadium as a holding deposit in case it needs to use the ground? I guess it could be both.

Or neither.

I like this.

WA has shown that it will turn up for non Eagles and Dockers matches so long as the occasion is right. See Dreamtime.

The only stadium in Australia that can provide an MCG like experience is Perth Stadium.

While not threatening to his government, if he pulled a swifty prior to the match, it would likely hurt his astronomical popularity in WA (and I'm hoping the AFL have negotiated the clauses applying to potential shutdowns in case of COVID).

At least if Port make it to the big dance they won't have a game ground advantage.

Looks like even the Semi Finals and Prelims could be held in Perth too as the Cats and Dees are both flying to Perth after their games this weekend.

I’m sure the Western Demons will do us proud!

You behave now @Ethan Trembley!

Well this is a better option than the chance of playing port in ADelaide.

Just hope all the non mfc fans don't hate us for beating eagles and boo us to death.

Alice Springs would have been my choice but probably too small.

Still got one month…

need cases to be dropping, vax rates rising in Vic

expect only vaxxed supporters allowed in, entry times, etc.

cmon Dees, cmon the big V, counting on you both….

Unfortunately there is not enough time to get cases down to zero and also have a decent crowd for a finals like atmosphere. I know cases have slowly chipped down the last 2 days but we could be over a hundred in a day or two out of nowhere such is the unpredictability of this virus.

I think given Pfizer has just been made available to everyone this week, they can certainly make the game open only to those with one dose and a mandatory test 72 hours pre game and/or a rapid test on the day?  And say 30,000 capacity?

It could be a good trial for things to come once we open up more.
But firstly we need people to sit the hell down and stay home and stop waiting so long to get tested! FFS Victorians be less dumb!

I've resigned myself to the fact it won't be at the G and by some miracle it is at reduced capacity I'm not really in the position to afford what will be Astronomical prices . And if we are still in lockdown I don't give a flying F my parents and sister who I've been going to games with every week for 30+ years are coming over to watch with me.

One of the best ways they will get the final 20% to get vaccinated is to make it a prerequisite for entry into the footy and other entertainment venues.

However I'm pretty sure I've heard comment from the Vic Gov saying they weren't going to go down this route this year.

Next year I have no doubt this will be the case but they need the infrastructure in place to do it properly and not just flashing a card that can be easily forged.

I don't see why we can't hold it and just make it for double jabbas only.  Don't open any catering/bars and anyone in the toilets / entry points masked.  1/3rd capacity with distancing.  35,000 and open it up to members only.   NO CORPORATES!  I know it's not this simple and we have to make it of course but no Harmes in dreaming a little surely

I have not given up hope, covid numbers are going down, so fingers crossed it's at the G🙏

Your beer to pie to cheese ratio is way off.

Perf GF?

Happy Dance GIF by Rodney Dangerfield

Sounds like I immediately need to apply for a reverse financed internship in the match day roles at the club then aha

This is the definition of optimism.

I bought a one way Flexi plane ticket to Perth leaving Sept 9 (with a 15 day window to the GF if it is on the 28th of sept).

I'll be double vaccinated by Aug 31 and I've told work if there's chance to get to perth, I'm gone!

Just rip the bandaid off already, Gil. 😞

Double jabs only would still eliminate people who have got their jabs as soon as possible, yet have to wait 12 weeks between shots. Like myself.

I’d be extremely peeved off if I couldn’t make it as someone one in this camp + premium reserved seat holder

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
