No player would want to leave where we are at currently.  Some will have to be persuaded/pushed.

I want to to see the MFC get stronger through trades which we seem to be doing each year.

Brayshaw has not once been in our leadership group from my recollection??

He's in the leadership group this year. Brayshaw is a culture-setter you just don't mess with that. He won't be leaving, he's set up in Melbourne with his missus, family, and friends.

IMO Cerra is not an upgrade on Brayshaw on the wing, all the defensive stuff and 1%'s Gus brings are invaluable.

Here's a leftfield idea. Trade fringe players into necessary picks to acquire Cerra, not core 22 players.

we will have pick 36 and our 2022 first round picks avaliable for trade, if you were to assume that 22 pick will be between 13-18 and combine a second rounder and a fringe player, i think that's a package that is good enough for a player like Cerra.

so given he's OOC..  PIck 36, 2022 FR, and Sam Weideman, for Adam Cerra and a late pick

Agree.  was just about to suggest this.

Weideman plus 2022 first rounder  +/- later picks should get it done.  Lobb may leave Freo so they need another tall fwd

Cerra is a quality young player and would help make us the team to beat in the next few years

I will preface my comments by saying that I watch Freo less than most other teams and Cerra is not a player that really stands out.

IMO Cerra is a good young player but he is not particularly tough or quick. He will obviously improve as he gains strength but I doubt he will ever by elite. Cerra also looks like he plays best as a centre square midfielder rather than a forward or winger. With Petracca and Oliver as the core of our midfield and Viney, Harmes, Sparrow and Jordon as other midfielders, I am not sure he would make us much better in there. Particularly given key roles of the other midfielders are blocking and pressure rather than winning first possession in the clearances.

There has been some comments that Cerra would be a better winger than Brayshaw. Cerra may be more natural there, but I am not sure he would make us better though and Brayshaw has runs on the board. We have developed a game plan to play with one attacking side (covered by Langdon) and one defensive side (covered by Brayshaw). While this game plan has has been developed to protect our weaknesses (only one true winger) it also caters to our strengths (making the opposition have to go through Gawn, Jackson, Lever and May or try a risky kick in the corridor which gives us the chance to counterattack). I think adding a more dynamic winger would be a bit redundant unless we change the way we move the ball and defend (which we should not be doing given the success this year).

Ross Lyon has bailed out from the Carlton job. Maybe Cerra had doubts with him as a future coach and Carlton went cold?

ross had the job and then was told yesterday he was going to have to go through a 30-45 day process to get the job

Cerra - 21yo, 6'2", 76 games

Highly skilled mid who started outside and moved to more inside mid this year and averaged 23 touches. About to hit his prime and can only improve imo.

Logue was quoted saying: "I've never seen a man hit more opposite foot passes lace out to the forwards while in traffic"

imo we lack classy outside mids and he could be great addition.  I could see him playing off HB also with his kicking skills

Don't even know why Brayshaw, or Jackson or Rivers for that matter are coming up in conversation. It just doesn't work like that anymore - Tyson for Pruess was one of the rare recent examples (maybe Aish?), but how often do you get direct player trades these days? You look at potential outgoing currency, and then see what might satisfy a trade elsewhere with the packaging of pics and pick swaps. No point trying to push a trade for Brayshaw to Fremantle, when he might be more valued at Adelaide for example (not advocating pushing him anywhere - just that you maximise your outs and ins and try to come out on top overall).

The petulance of the bloke is unbelievable. A shame Carlton didn’t get to experience it first hand

He's working for CBRE, so he needs quick cash. None of this waiting around for 30 days to see if he got the job.

Word is that Ross has a job lined up with the Eagles.

Even with those sunglasses on, he can't hide those Lyon eyes.  (sorry)

Is Cerra really all that?

I say hold onto Brayshaw and take our picks to the draft. Taylor is on a serious roll so i'd prefer to see what kind of diamond he can unearth for us this year

The only traded in player i foresee over the next 2 trade periods is a KPF. Ben King or Harry McKay my preference. Keep our cap to cover one of those two.

I have no idea how any process works... is that unreasonable?

Has anyone thought that perhaps Brayshaw would like to head to WA? Isn't his family all over there? The last couple of years have been hard on everyone living over here, perhaps he wouldn't mind heading back should he get a flag at the Demons this year?

I wouldn't push him out but if he has flagged an interest in going back to WA we'd be stupid not to look at Cerra as an option. I wouldn't want to lose Rivers or Jackson though.

Is Bell still running the show at Freo? Would make things interesting.

No.  His family live in Melbourne and accommodate young Demon draftees.

This.

Cerra might be a good player and may be an upgrade in skills that we need, but injuries aside, he would be pushing out a very good player from our 22. That's wasted resources and salary cap.

I think it's better to keep our powder dry, let Taylor do his thing at the draft and work on our key fwd legacy plan.

That's is unless a player was intending to go back to Perth and its a swap of players.

Fair enough, I did know that just completely forgot about it!

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
