Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I liked Sparrow's game. Spent a lot of time midfield. Turned it over a few times but he's tough and always seemed to be where the action is.

A lot of his touches were under pressure and I think he will develop nicely

Tom turns the ball over a lot. I rewatched the game tonight (Lockdown good times) and his kicking was really poor. I hope that’s just due to exposure and fitness. He can get it ok.

Harmesy on the other hand. His kicking was diabolical for a player of his experience.

Both really good players with great futures ahead of them.

Jordon, although a bit down of late, has found a role that no-one else is filling. He's a very sensible player, runs hard, knows his own limitations and is an elite tackler.

I think it's no coincidence Petracca's increased defensive output has come with JJ's dip in form. We've really missed his tackling and others have had to take up the slack.

Sparrow is a young Jack Viney with perhaps a little less nous. I think Sparrow needs a spot to open up for him before we see his true value. He's so far down the pecking order for that bullocking inside mid spot others are doing the work he's most suited to.

He's virtually unstoppable at VFL level because he owns that role.

Would love to see him develop some smarts to go with his physicality, so that he can contribute when not in his perfect role, much the way Brayshaw has had to do.

I think he’s an inside mid….bullish, and with a good first 5 metre ‘charge’. Good hands, big kick but pretty squiffy yesterday, just needs more games and confidence that comes with it. As you say, deanox, will never be the primary selection, but will toil and become reliable, I’ve no doubt.

Very early days to say never.

Both Petracca and Oliver thrive when given even a couple more steps to work in. If Sparrow is doing okay at bashing and crashing and drawing attention to himself at the contest that means the ball is coming out to Oliver and Petracca a bit more instead of them having to go in after it and getting sat on.  That'll be worth goals.

That said, the effectiveness of Sparrow Viney and Harmes is very dependent on their humility. It's very visible that Viney's best is when he is playing a selfless defensive and blocking game. It's even more visible that Harmes' worst games and moment come whenever he thinks he is a star.

Bit harsh on Sparrow, Viney has no football nous at all.

I know "selected team line ups" are pretty well meaningless, but interesting to see Sparrow named on ball and Viney HFF.

Are they testing if we can play both and how they would both fit in?

Actually would like to see JV spend quite a bit of time at HFF.

Time will tell.

Surprised he kept his spot ahead of Jordon, but wondering if it's to freshen Jordon up for finals?

He had a better game than Jordon last week.  Jordon liked tired

The Sparrow, Melk, JJ & Harmes flip flop 'undecided / NQR' ongoing debates to me are an indication we are still lacking some real silk at the moment through the middle.

Something we need to try and rectify whether at the draft or trade table.

For now we've got a bunch of ok to average players who might 'just' fill a role on a good day but unfortunately aren't quite capable of taking it to the level many feel will make a difference to the present team's fortunes most weeks.

Over the year I feel Jordon has the body of work I'd have prefered heading into finals. Perhaps they are resting him in lieu of the pre finals bye?

I actually added more here (to save double up).

Sports bet have them at 1.90 after team selection to MFC at 1.94

Funny, the minor Premiership- presupposing a Melbourne win has MFC 1.90 to them at 2.25

Due to the fact port can pass them on percentage even with a win and not us

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
