Could not believe the tigers were favourite with bookies for this game.

So I backed them to win ay 2.20.

And to win by more than 39 at 14

Stiff bin, very stiff.

Party at Mrs Hardwick’s place tonight I would have thought.

A friend of mine went to a baseball game in Los Angeles last night with 20,000 people. LA had nearly 4,000 COVID cases yesterday. We’re not going to get the chance to watch our team be a genuine chance for a premiership.

I disagree. The GF is at least 6 weeks away, maybe 7. Thats a long time from our current CoVid restrictions. I remain hopeful as we leave winter and enter Springtime that, we'll be able to be there - if and when we qualify - at whatever ground it's played. Still a chance - always a chance! GO DEES!

i'm as bad as @Demonland, furiously changing results to calculate the likely finals match-ups

can definitely see the peptides making it playing old mate joedan and the bears, a sydney clash in the other elimination final

for us i reckon it'll be the pear if we win both games or we'll play the cats two weeks in a row...i worry that it'll be two trips down to kardinia park, but if we drop r23 then hopefully practice should make perfect and we knock em off in finals week 1

other top four clash will either be footscray v pear or cats

Yeah, but thinking about it, there are probably a bunch of rules like that.

Like what?

rules should be clear to all players. They should not have to look to the umps to see what they should do

That's not the rule at all.

What is the rule then? Players move until they hear stand with no penalty.
the rule might not be the problem. If not the interpretation is

Like playing on to advantage and/or any other time the umpire calls a free kick in general play.

It’s a massive IF mate. And I’m  not expecting it to happen.

Just pointing out that GWS are carrying some brilliant form and could very well beat Sydney in week 1.

Meanwhile we’ll be playing a high quality side in week 1.

Tends to happen when one finishes top 4. (Fortunately for us given our record v 14-17th).

Hawks seem intent on sending Clarko out in style. I reckon they will beat the Doggies today

Well you did think they were a chance against the Lions 2 weeks ago. Surely not the Dogs, would make things bloody interesting if they did.

It's not called " right, you Umpires go out there and concentrate on the rules of the week".

Now it's "interpretations of the week".

Upon reflection re last night's game I should have realised that the Tiges had called it quits for the year after Dusty had finished really..

Facts.
If it wasn't for Martin Richmond wouldn't have won 1 flag let alone 3.

Sorry mate, that's an opinion, not a fact.

Roundest face I’ve ever seen. Almost a perfect circle.

I reckon “not 15” is worse. Especially if you’re a defender who’s just marked in the opposition goal-square. 😬

All free kicks involve a whistle. Quite different.

and the advantage rule is another shocker. Officiated differently regularly

BT querying as to why Dustin Martin has to  do 14 days quarantine in Melbourne when he’s just came out of a QLD hospital…

Umm, pretty sure he’s been out of hospital since late July.

I am now coming to the realisation that BT is an extremely poor caller.

He regularly calls the wrong player and the wrong version of a piece of play.

He calls points goals, marks touched etc.

He also displays a bias towards some teams and players.

He has joined the magnificent, superb, magical, legendary, sublime territory of Dwanye.

In addition to the unlistenable voice of Kelli, these are 3 commentators that just drive me nuts amd ruin the enjoyment of a game of footy.

The volume button is very low when they are involved.

You're probably right. However, the difference is that the 'not 15' is necessary to follow long established rules of the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
