I'm happy to have anyone that loves it explain to me how an umpire can simultaneously watch the kicker for a play on, while watching the man on the mark.

Can't be done, unless we start hiring four eyed, cross eyed umpires.

If one really thinks more about it in an evolutionary way, maggots metamorphosise into blowflies, which have compound eyes, so possibly not quite so far fetched as first appears.

On the Hawkins issue, I can’t remember which case but the MRO and or tribunals have very clearly said, if you pin the arms and the head hits the ground you are guilty. I guess they will do a  Donut Dan on this one - “don’t remember”

The Age this morning put the incident up in lights. Will be looked at for sure.

Gold Coast cannot be fairdinkum. Give em some more draft picks. One through to 30.

Essendon nailing the Tigers season 2021 coffin lid pretty tight here.

Watching Essendon play on Channel 7 the last month you’d be forgiven for thinking they’re 5 games clear on top of the ladder.

The fawning 🤢

Can’t wait for the bombers to be in the 8 for 90minutes 😂

Yea....but not cos im worried about eagles making the finals.

I just dont like their fan base 😀

Eagles are looking flat as a tack after their big game vs Melbourne 6 days ago.

Shows the effort it took to get up after flying back from that game.

Qtr time scoreline looks promising.  If the finals have to be in Perth it would be so sweet if WC weren't in them

Yea. Glad you mentioned it.

That game was a huge slog in the rain and had to take its toll.

Given what freo are doing to weagles ipso facto..... our win today was better than it seemed.

So bizarre watching our game with zero crowd and now the Derby with nearly full house and great atmosphere.

I am bloody envious.

Yea it hurts but even if we can't get to finals this year I'm just so glad and proud of our club this year.

How good is footy when your winning?

Edited by leave it to deever

Watching the Derby and the crowd involvement and I would say that after the first two weeks of the finals, the rest will be played at Optus Stadium. No chance in Victoria.

They should just close the joint and move them to Tassie.

Loving the Derby at the "Boo Stadium". The booing by Freo fans is just brilliant against the masters of booing. Laughing my head off. Oh the joys of cheap white wine.

Yuck it looks like essenscum will now play finals.

Seriously how bad are west coast? They are losing to a Freo team that barely have any players. They are just injury riddled

Fremantle are going to a serious team when they get their players back and their youth develops. They play the right way

Since when did Fox start putting ads up at ball ins   They forget to remove them when the play starts too often and with their overuse of closeups it blocks my view of when the players last  shaved

Just announced on seven news they expect Hawkins to not be cited due to the Holman case, difference is though saints player had both arms pinned so can’t protect yourself

The media are starting the spin re the Hawkins incident.

the MRO will come back with no weeks. Apparently a spin was involved. [censored] me. I’m usually against conspiracy theory stuff but that is BS. Far worse than the Holman tackle

Freo choke on

Exactly what I was about to post!!! I can’t believe they’re comparing a one-arm-pinned tackle to a two-arms-pinned tackle. There’s no justification.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

Concerningly, average attendances in 2024 were 2,660 fans per match, with the women’s game incurring an annual loss of approximately $50 million.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
