Game Day thread will erupt at the first dodgy free kick (I predict 27 seconds in).

Boo Stadium crowd to be even more annoying than usual.

The gap between these two teams evens things up with the amount a rain to fall.

Might even put them slightly ahead as they’re the better skilled side.

I agree with this.

Our poor kicking skills will be exacerbated by the rain, just as they were in the wet against the dogs.  For this reason, it was a good move to bring Melksham in. And Bowey helps the kicking cause too.

Conversely their better kicking skills will come to the fore. Helps that Ryan is out though as he is one of the bets kicks in the AFL.

However they rely heavily on a chip and mark tempo model, which is much harder to implement in the wet as it is harder to mark the ball - and harder still if we are constantly up in their grill with intensity and pressure.

And they way they score is built around their three talls inside 50 taking contested marks or marks on the lead. Even in the dry they would struggle to take marks inside 50 with our defensive system. In wet it will be all but impossible.

And even with Ryan and Shuey (who also out) in the team they are not brilliant at winning ground balls inside 50.

But as you say its all about the pressure we apply.

Yep. 'Paper thin'.

One thing I will never forget is after the 2018 prelim the WA Police, on their official Twitter account (yep, their OFFICIAL account), posted something along the lines of “Missing: Melbourne Football Club. Last seen arriving at Optus Stadium.”

For that reason, among others of course, a win tonight would be great. But a merciless thrashing would be the ultimate.

100% rain predicted all night, starting from 6pm and going through until about 11pm

I hope we make changes and go in a bit smaller....learn our lesson from the WB game

Is all good. Apparently the umps came to our quarantined trivia night.

Good thinking!

Monday night footy, what a fantastic way to start the week! Now let's get that bread booiiiizzzz.

Edit: liking this inclusion of Melksham, think he's going to be good for us tonight.

We didn't lose that game because of our talls...

I didn't know that...it changes my prediction completely.

We bring sustained pressure we win.

Oh and the WA umps are fair and reasonable.

No Margetts is a start. Dalgleish and Nicholls not great though.

What odds that Ethan Tremblay was the one who posted it?

Rubbish

About as rubbish as your post.

Name talls were ineffective that night?

I will be furious if we lose tonite.

Depends how we play. The Eagles have plenty of talent and if they click will be difficult to beat over there. I can handle a loss as long as we crack in and play well. Sometimes you get beaten by a better team on the day

Are they allowed full capacity crowd at Optus?

No restrictions here in Perf.

Can't be bothered talking to you - you know more about footy than anyone in the whole, wide world

You work it out

I am feeling a bit ambivalent about this game just so much to gain with a win and we run into a torrential downpour 3000 km from home. I know that we can win in the rain but it dulls our edge and provides opportunity for more dodgy free kicks. We can and should win this with just a bit of luck and a Lot of pressure, pressure, pressure hard work and extremely strong team work. Dee’s by 17 points.

Come on Dees you can do this.!!!!!!!!!

Maybe we got to the bottom of the dogs “luck” with the umpires, and replicated their strategy.

I am not joking by the way. Steven May mentioned it on SEN late last week.

More than ever tonight in the rain, will the importance of inside 50 free kicks be vital. The unpaid to us and the paid to them. I wish there was a stat.

1. Hope we don’t get sucked up in defence only to allow a vacant dribble off the ground

2. hope we run and carry in numbers an avoid poor kicking with a wet ball

3. hope we don’t get injuries

i really can’t pick this one but will be watching with interest

Realistically they’ve got a full squad minus Luke Shuey…

MFCSS hitting hard that with everything to play for we’ll [censor] the bed. That said, we brought the heat to the Eagles at Optus in Round 22 of 2018 and I think we’re a good chance if we do the same tonight.

50/50 for me. Much depends on the umps being influenced, or not, by crowd. Our best beats their best every other day, all things being equal.

Just like the GCS, who were broken the week before we played them, the pressure got to them early and they folded. Same will happen with the Eagles. They'll come out firing for the first 5 minutes but then our pressure will overwhelm them. 5 or 6 dodgy free kicks will keep then in touch at qrtr time, when the umps will realise their attempts are futile.

Melksham to hit BBB with so many bullets he'll have Sherrin permanently imprinted on his left pec.

Dees by 73.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
