Off topic slightly but how about Hawthorn's fixture this year.

In a COVID disrupted year, they'll get to the end of the year having only played three games away from the MCG, Marvel and UTAS (their other home). And of those three, one was an "away" game vs Gold Coast at the SCG.

So they'll only have played two games all year in true foreign territory.

Irrelevant club for the next decade

Anyone who can access the paywall?

It's only for the Geelong/St Kilda game. Also mentions home finals at GMHBA if no crowds in Melbourne. The agenda is obvious.

So when do tickets to the G become available for Sundays' match

The AFL is secretly confident it will be allowed to open gates to the public in Victoria this weekend in what will be a major boost for the league. Here’s the latest.

Victorian footy fans could make a shock return this weekend with the AFL secretly confident it will be allowed to throw open the turnstiles in the wake of Melbourne’s sixth lockdown.

High-level talks for Geelong’s game against St Kilda to be declared open to the public are advancing in what would shape as a major boost for the competition on the eve of September.

Regional Victoria was released from lockdown on Monday night in a political decision which delivered unexpected hope that country-based Cats members would be granted entry for the Round 22 clash against the Saints, which is likely to be played on Saturday night but has not yet been assigned a timeslot.

Victoria’s contact tracers have isolated the latest outbreak to metropolitan Melbourne in a breakthrough which could ultimately strengthen the Cats’ premiership chances.

The Cats’ annual longshot request to play their home finals at GMHBA Stadium would be greatly enhanced if they could safely host crowds down the highway in their final two home-and-away games, particularly if Melbourne remains ridden by the virus.

The Geelong region has not detected a case for several weeks and coach Chris Scott’s decade-long plea for home finals would be hard to ignore if his town was a safe haven.

A decision on whether to welcome footy fans back at Kardinia Park this week is likely to be made by Wednesday.

“If it is safe to do it then we would,” Victorian premier Daniel Andrews said on Monday.

I would rather forgo not going to a final in person than play a Home final against Geelong at Geelong.

Empty MCG every day of the week or Tasmania.

I called this weeks ago. This is why Top 4 isn't enough. We need to beat Geelong in Round 23. Don't want to play them 2 weeks in a row there.

Saints have been hopelessly inconsistent this year. After playing very well against the Swans last week expect them to s**t the bed v Geelong

we'll beat them twice

We have to finish above Geelong so they don’t cry for a home final down there. We just have to.

FFS if we are above them I would rather Ballarrat even.  Just F off Scott.

Geelong on alert after recording one of Victoria’s 20 new cases today

Surely the chances are slim to none

I am a bit surprised they are not playing Sunday night and even Monday night games given half the country is in lockdown.

I long suspected that the only way the cats would get a home final against a Melbourne based club would be if vic country restrictions differed from the metropolitan area. Let's cross our collective fingers & toes that the single covid case in Geelong spent their weekend at the Westfield Shopping Centre in the middle of town.

Unfortunately, the case is not in Geelong, but Lara 18km away. And has been in isolation for their full infectious period.

How good would it be if that fat block head of a coach Scott got his home final in geelong and we beat them (Provided we were to play them obviously).

That would be karma and bloody hysterical.

The case allegedly recorded in Geelong actually came from Lara which is about 20k away by road.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
