This game was not as important as the Swans losing, but wonderful to see the umpires lose a game they tried to win.

Good weekend.

OMG the Bont free kick situation has got completely out of hand

I only saw a few minutes but that last gift goal was an absolute travesty - dropped the ball in a tackle then gifted the free.

You know the Bont is winning the Brownlow just by how much the umpires love and protect him

This isn't as good a result for us as people think.

If we go 2-1 from here and the Dogs go 2-0, the Dogs will finish above us - even with this loss, we still have to win all three games, and/or the Dogs have to lose to Hawthorn or Port (in Melbourne), for us to finish above them.

It's certainly possible (Port's in form, for example), but it's still not that likely.

But Essendon's win puts them in pole position to finish in the top 8, particularly if we beat West Coast tomorrow (Essendon has the percentage buffer over all their competitors).

Last night I said GWS had given up on the season.

Today I said the bombers looked horrific.

And, last week I said how glad I was that Peter Wright didn’t come to us.

Im on a roll folks!

this weekend has shown the teams playing for finals spots are dangerous opponents. WCE are in danger of dropping out so we have to bring our A game. A slow start is not acceptable tomorrow

You do realise that Essendon have an easy last 2 games and will probably make finals now and we have to put up with there arrogant fans. They are actually not a bad team & could cause some trouble.

What a weekend for Melbourne. .Started of hoping to stay in the top four ended up playing for top spot. Just get it done.

Bont clearly has won the Brownlow. Umpires fawn over the bloke. It’s sickening.

If Clarry got the same love he would win it this year with the highest votes EVER

Nah. Don't stress. 2 meter Peter will never play a game like that again and the bombers wouldn't kick as straight again. They'll do nothing in finals

Yep ive had both WCE and Freo out of a finals series thats played in Perth.

This season just keeps on giving.

100% HTB  No grey area. But even if not HTB, dangerous tackle?! Is that ump for real?

So some people are already celebrating top spot and we have not even played yet. And top spot means nothing until the end of the final series.

Did we just Steven Bradbury to spot?

We haven't done anything yet.

First we have to win tomorrow. That puts us on top.

Then we have to outdo Geelong and the Bulldogs by a game, because we'll only be half a game in front.

So, if we beat West Coast tomorrow, and then Adelaide, but lose to Geelong, both Geelong and the Dogs will pass us unless they lose another game (which requires Geelong to lose to St Kilda, or the Dogs to lose to Hawthorn or Port).

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
