Toby Green, the perfect definition of a flawed genius.

It shows how much the crowd would influence the umpires if they were screaming. Its just natural. i really hope we have an empty stadium

But somehow they are still getting the better of the decisions from the mags

I think you’ll get your wish. Can’t see a VIC crowd by 21 August.

If the AFL make the dreaded Perth September decision, the Geel V Dees game could even be at Perth’s Optus Stadium.

Friggin Geelong - appealing for deliberate OOB when the ball didn't even go out.  I guess they thought that the crowd (BT says there is a crowd) would influence the maggot.

Right? Clearly didn’t go OOB but they appealed nonetheless. Pathetic knee jerk reactions from a side that knows the match is lost and instead of galvanising they’ll revert to desperate pleading for something that isn’t there. God, how I hate them.

How good has Taylor been on Hawkins? He's a nice kick too. You'd expect Hawkins to have most in the contest but Taylor has beaten him a number of times and taken multiple important intercept marks.

Geelong are the walking wounded tonight, Giants have just lost Daniel but they should have the fresher legs.

Walking wounded, from a RSL WW1 retirement home.

Daniel subbed out through concussion from Selwood’s bump. He HAS to be suspended. Minimum one week (give him an extra week to be sure 😉).

Geelong % won't matter to us (unless they manage a draw sometime soon).

FFS  yet another 50 m free shot at goal - the maggots should get the coach's award from Scott

Green a genuine high tackle (no even a Selwoodesque one) in goal kicking range ignored.

It effects Port who are 1 win behind them. Could be the difference between us playing Port or Geelong finals week 1.

Though Cats now only 4 goals behind, so % might well be moot

But it probs would be two- or threefold had there been a crowd.

Thought commentators said hammy?

Can someone work out if Geeling lose tonight what does that mean in terms of how many wins we need to secure top 4?

If they lose tonight, and we beat them in 2 weeks time,  we could drop one of the next 2 and still finish above them on the ladder.

Does anybody else hear the pure disappointment from BT and Brayshaw when the Cats don’t score, and the lack of enthusiasm when the Giants score?

I miss Clinton, he got excited for the game, not the club.

Selwood just bought a free far softer than the one ignored (won't say missed as that could imply a degree of impartiality) to Greene.  Almost resulted in a goal.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
