Just listen to it on Casey radio that's what I'll be doing. Then the big game against the Gold Coast at 3 then the Storm in the blockbuster against Penrith at 7:30. My day is sorted.

POSSIBLE TEAM

B: LOCKHART, TURNER, J.SMITH

HB: BOWEY, BRADTKE, D.SMITH

C: DECLASE, JONES, BAKER

HF: MELKSHAM, WEIDEMAN, VANDENBERG

F: BEDFORD, ELLISON, CHANDLER

FOLL: DAW, JETTA, SPARROW

IC: LAURIE, ROSMAN, MUNRO, WHITE

EMERG: FOOT, GREY

Given the number of times I refer to the Western Bulldogs as Footscray, I'm somewhat amused that the one time it is correct to refer to our opponents as Footscray, the title of this thread goes with Western Bulldogs.

R16 already...this VFL season is whizzing past in a blur.

Here's hoping! Certainly need to make at least a couple of changes this week.

I think it's likely that a significant number of possible VFL players will need to travel with the squad to play GC and then on to Perth for quarantine ahead of West Coast.  I expect they'll take at least 26 or 28 with coverage in all areas so the team vs Footscray will be depleted.

No crowds by the sound of it also?

Surely Weideman, Hibberd, Jordon and Melksham will all be traveling to Qld and WA and unavailable to Casey.

I'd be taking AVB and J.Smith too.

Can confirm it's on Kayo/Fox at 1300hrs

Good Ill watch with interest, horrible weather coming this weekend!

This game will provide a lot more opportunities for the Casey boys as we will need to take additional players up to QLD as mentioned by earlier posters. Will be good to see how they perform, also hopefully inspires others on the list to greater heights heading into the finals.

Round 16 how many games have Casey actually played?

8 - same as most other 'vfl' clubs, although others have played 9

the northern sides all have played more - southport, gc17, bears, swans, aspley all 10 (as well as the peptides), then gw$ 11

What a basket case of a league. As I have iterated, next year revert back to AFL Reserves competion, none of this Aspley, Southport and others rubbish. How on earth will they decide finalists?

The coaches and football bosses need to start putting pressure on the AFL about this debacle of a competition - the inability of the clubs to get decent match practice into their fringe players has surely got to be concerning them.

As a player I would hate to be coming out of contract having played 8 games in a season spread across five months.

^^ picket and poita - agree 100%

Especially with the ongoing threat of lockdowns that undoubtedly will go  forward into 2022 and beyond, just set up an AFL Reserves competition with all Victorian teams involved.

The interstate clubs can set up their own local competition.

As it stands it is a total dogs' dinner, benefiting nobody.

Hopefully once everyone is vaccinated there won’t be any need for lock downs.!!!!!

Of course the irony is that the VFL didn't start until Round 3 of the AFL season

We have all said this before DJ but it must be the worst planned/ run competition in the land.

Do you actually believe that?

Fauci is now, having said that widespread vaccination would mean no masks, saying that masks indoors and out may "be needed" indefinitely, for all even primary school kids.

This pandemic has seen a litany of mixed massages.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
