Thanks, my point is you don't need a lot of touches to impact a game. You can't expect a Bedford or Chandler to come in and get 18-24 touches, get that 10-14 lay some inside 50m tackles, hit their targets with the ball they get and hopefully hit the scoreboard.  We just need to add another forward that will help keep the ball inside 50 and put opposition defenders under pressure.

And you have just highlighted Spargo's and Pickett's strengths also. They both use the footy and kick goals.

Bedford is poor by foot and doesn't kick enough goals and Chandler barely wins enough of the footy as well.

We need to try something different, the past 6 weeks we seem flat, robotic and most players just can't kick.  Jones and M Brown have been injured not sure when their last game of footy was, bringing in Melksham is a no brainer he is better option than Harmes.

The other option with a bit of X factor about him is Smith as a forward for Jackson with TMac playing that second ruck role.

Need to be careful tinkering to much this late in the season. There unknowns that the FD are across in regard to any training loads etc, which I think we should be starting to see upward trend now.

I think Melksham needs to come in I like his skills by foot , which we need. Do we look at Melksham for Jackson and go with the mobile forward line again.

Im inclined not to make changes to the backline, Rivers has dropped off a little but I think that might be down to the extra work being put into our defence by the opposition and the increased pressure at ground level. Overall we still keep opposition sides to low scores and conversion inside forward 50 is the main issue.

Jordon for Chunk might be the other consideration but at the end of the day we went head to head with a very good side on the weekend, with both sides backing their structures in and we fell short because of conversion and some brain fades leaving Bont free at stoppages, which no doubt will have come up in the after match review.

I think more work will go into Daniel should we meet the Dogs again in September. I’m of the view we’re not that far off but at this level, being slightly off has a big impact.

Disagree somewhat, but that is 'opinion' for you. Futhermore, he'd be hungrier for the ball and the team contribution now that he is over his injuries.

Like your changes, go more mobile in the forward line. No use replacing Jackson with weideman, it's just replacing one player who's involvement has dropped off with another who's likely to not have much involvement either.

Jackson definetely needs a freshen up. Weid is the obvious one to replace him but Daw could give Gawn some bash and crash support.  On balance you go Weid. I would be looking Melksham in the eye and making sure he is hungry before giving him the green light. Maybe sparrow for jordan who also looks like he needs a rest. I know we want to have a steady line up now but selecting to match the opposition is essential from here.  Win 3 of 4 and we secure double chance. win six of seven and we win the flag.

I would favour chunk a smidgen ahead of Sparrow if fully fit and i'd have him playing a 70/30 role (Defensive Sweeper at Center bounces to pressure Bont et al running straight out of the congestion up the guts) and the other 30% up forward, sharing this role with Kozzie.  Kozzie i would have playing a different outer rim mid during his short stints in the middle looking for the receive and then 1st clean possession from the middle.

 

Have we completely stopped this option?  It wouldn't surprise me if we've backed him right off as playing a small HF role (effectively / consistently) is hard enough let alone significant minutes in the middle as well.  Subject to fitness / loads capability i would attempt to play him in the 70/30 HF/Mid role with Chunk.

This is no doubt an ideal scenario but hopefully the bye in the week prior to the finals will freshen many up including Kozzie for this exact impact.  Until then we need to be going all out to win at least three of the next four to secure a top four spot.

I agree that Chunk has the experience and good foot skills to help us at the pointy end. He's a bit slow but then so are half of the Geelong team.

As for Pickett, I thought he covered a ton of ground against the dogs on Saturday. Anyone know if there's stats published for distance covered for him? I think he's still going hard both offensively and defensively.

Continual rotation of our players through the middle might shake things up for us.

I'm sick of seeing up to 4 capable talls within a 5M circle & the ball bombed to their heads.

Clearly we have one tall forward with a proven track record of kicking 60 plus goals in season.

Why not use him to advantage?

1/ 200cm tall

2/ Fast over the first 20M

3/ Marks at the highest point &

4/ if not, it attracts a chop arms free

5/ Now he's as fit as a scrub bull

So I know I'll be hailed down for a different opinion, but here goes...

BBB to line up deep in the goal square. And when our reputed classy midfielders get the ball long into F50, he provides the lead.

The most important part (left out until now) is that one of Kossi/Chandler/Bedford is instructed to run in from HF or the pocket to pick up the F&C or JtheG over the top.

This also takes advantage of Kossies speed and accuracy at the snap. Chandler's not bad at this and Bedford has the speed.

I know this is 1970's footy that had a different set of strategies (hit or hit harder).

I know it won't work all the time, but at least try this a couple of times a quarter - or maybe once.

It is not just my opinion but of many others he is a limited footballer but you need to stick at what you are good at I blame the coaches for the loss last week the dogs rely on Caleb and he was allowed to run free all night he is one their main barometers with how they are going gee even kicked a goal, the Bont allowed to stand alone a ball ups seeing he is on hell of a footballer why should that happen, Smith allowed to roam free with ease I think the coaches don't react quick enough but just keep on relying on their system, you should be able to tinker with it without losing the system.

Kick outs everyone know out to the left out to the left thats all we do rely on Max to mark it, forward line the past few weeks have been sucked up to the half forward line in packs look at down the ground footage all bunched together why, how about BB stands in the goal square with and some other players wide on the flanks give our midfield other options to deliver to not just pockets at least try something at least give Tmac a chance to mark or lead  for the pill.

Having said that we can beat the other sides if we get our act together with our midfield and forward line

I generally find that a player described as having "X factor" is a player that looks the goods but has no particular skills. It's the equivalent of calling comedians "zany" because they are not actually funny.

In....some genuine pride of the club.....a line in the sand and hunger to win and a few other platitudes. A return to how we were playing before the wheels fell off and we finally imploded against the hawks.

Id like to see Melksham to come in for the expense of Jackson.  Our fwd 50 pressure is fine, but we cant have anb and gawn as inside 50 leaders and expect to be a top 2 team. In fact, we cant have Trac butchering it week after week.

Has had league leading 125 inside 50s for 8 goal assists. 8?!?! Comparison.

I love Trac, but he has been woeful this year kicking inside 50. Yes, part of it is goal kicking admittedly.  We need Melksham to finish off our good transitions. 

Put whomever in the ruck as a chop out for Gawn, who cares. It clearly doesnt correlate with clearances. 

Harmes lucky to keep his spot but if he isnt tagging touk miller this week whats his role?

Miller has been on absolute fire for a bottom 6 team. If they win and he has 35 touches and a goal allowed to run free and get first hands at stoppages it will be an indictment on our midfield and coaching staff.

I was tearing my hair out last year when they were trying him as a HBF, just didnt know where to run, when to attack or when to defend.  It was like the espresso martini of coaching moves; ruining a couple of things to make one bad things. His tagging (on Libba) on the weekend was terrible and Bevo was able to counter it, meaning we had to move Viney on to him.  This, again, meant we lost Vineys attack and gained nothing by having Harmes free.

Should give them all the time to think about their contributions. It would also assist the team, no doubt, to review previous 'managing' decisions plus blood a new skill set within the team prior to finals. (Have a look at their respective contributions and impacts.)
