The heart beats true 18,201 Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 I will say we are certainly backing in the same group again. There’s an element of responsibility about this approach that I really like. Our best is good enough. We just need to bring that intensity and desire consistently. Ive been a vocal critic of Goodwin over the last few years, but I think he’s showing a teachable restraint with this group of players that hopefully really allows the playing groups to understand it’s up to them. 4 Quote

IMO, he hasn’t built back to his best form yet and looks to lack a bit of pace. If you look at his stats on AFL, he is above average/elite in tackling and pressure acts, but average to below average in most other stats areas. His season average possessions are 20 (10 kicks) and 5 of these are turnovers; 60% disposal eff overall (a further 3 possessions not effective). Not intended as a slap, as you say he bleeds red and blue like us, but we really need him to build for finals. Maybe I notice him more because I hold him to a higher standard. 3 Quote

dazzledavey36 56,369 Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Whilst it's good to see Harmes back I honestly think Vandenberg is stiff. I thought his courageous act might have kept him but obviously not. I would have easily dropped Brayshaw for Harmes and kept Vanders at half forward where Brayshaw has been shifted too. Gus has honestly given us nothing for the past month and has had 0 influence on the team. Seriously needs to pull his finger out this weekend because he's getting a free run at it with some of his insipid efforts the past few weeks. The shifting around of Brayshaw is becoming one of the more perplexing scenarios going around. 4 Quote

Viney starting defensive half-forward flank, with occasional run in the middle. This is what has consistently worked - be pretty disappointed if it doesn’t happen. Defensively liability at one point turned into a defensive wingman. Maybe Goody is playing 4D chess and it's all the masterplan to unleash the insid mid Gus with a great defensive game circa 2025. Wylie D 87 Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 I doubt the Dogs will go with that many talls, but that seems irrelevant to me. What will matter is how we go in the midfield battle. In the second half last week the Hawks continually won the ball around the contest and moved it quickly before we could properly setup. It will come down to pressure and ability to win or halve 50/50 contests. Pressure forces them to bomb / rush forward entrances, playing into our defensive zone. 50/50 wins will be key for both teams as they present a rare opportunity to attack with a degree of unpredictability. If our pressure is on early I think we can win. If we give them a sniff they will be desperate to square the ledger before going into finals. This game is more important for them than us. Go Dees! The effort was poor defensively across the board, a big reason this year the buzz word has been about selflessness and players not chasing individual accolades.
