It's been a normal week as an Adelaide based Dees fanatic ?

Supremely confident up until game day when I no longer want to speak to anyone especially that nervous little bloke in my head who won't STFU ?

I will be shoulder to shoulder with the great unwashed and would dearly love to watch them leaving halfway through the final term knowing they have just come up against THE team to beat in big games!

Working from home today has been a real struggle while I wait for tonight and the frustration I feel everytime some [censored] sends me an email is making it harder to focus.... Funnily enough it's been a busy day, work wise, but I have just shut my emails down due to the fact my Inbox reached 64 unread emails! (I'll take any omen I can right now!)

Let's do this Demons!

Hit me up if you know any relatively cheap security guards as I may need them around 9:30pm local time as I attempt to cross Clarko's Bridge ?

I'm and Adelaide based Dees fan as well mate. If we see a crowd gathering around beating someone up let's promise to help the other out! In all honesty the Port fans are way better than the Crows fans. At least they understand football and the rules and will respect other supporters. Crows fans are so one eyed and have absolutely no clue about the game.

Never before has the truth been so clear!

The worst supporters by a fair margin!

Win this and the media will say Port aren't that much of a threat/scalp and they are unsure about MFC's credential. Lose it and Port are the real deal whilst we are the pretenders. Don't you just love the media bias.

I really don't know what to expect tonight, but agree with others that we will know within the first 5 minutes whether we take the threat seriously and whether we are a shot of winning the game.... i have this recurring thought of Round 1 2019....

He is a good acurate kick from 40 out thats what small forwards do,you dont see betts kicking goals from 50 or 60 out

Unfortunately have not seen him kick many or any from 40.

Spargo playing game 50.

Langers game 100.

Maxy game number 150.

Coming of a loss last week.

The boys will have been waiting 12 months for the chance to atone for last years smashing.

Big Bad Benny Brown in with a point to prove.

Perfect conditions - light winds, likely no rain, but some cloud cover to make sure it doesn't get dewy.

Flew in yesterday and being a night game have the full day to cross all the Ts and dot the Is.

So preparation perfect, including a run last night at Adelaide Oval to get a feel for the ground.

I've tipped us.

Go redlegs.

It couldn't be bigger for us

Lose and its likely we fall out of top 4 - with a really tough run of games to go

If we are serious about winning a flag - we must retain top 4

If we are serious about winning a flag - we must beat teams like Port that want to replace us in Top 4

Who really wants it more - tonight will indicate a lot about this team. If we are extremely competitive and lose by a small margin then that's a possible pass mark. If we lose easily and never look like it then that is a huge concern

Our form has dropped off which is not that unexpected - it is almost impossible to go through the season without some sort of form dip

Personally I am concerned that are starts have been a weakness - if we let them get off to a fast start the big pro Port crowd will get them flying - hard to see a way back from there

Fully agree with all your comments about the Dees.

IF we lose by a small margin it will say something about some improvement that we can recover from.  Esp if BBB kicks a few and it looks like we have a forward solution. and the record against top 8 side (tiges, cats, esp Lions and Dogs) retains some credibility.

If we cop a thumping its a huge deal.

But Power can't win here. They should win, and if they lose they are officially making up the numbers big time and Kochie won't be happy.

I'll give you that one.

I reckon it time to to use Harmes as a tagger again.

Sit him on Wines or Boak.

A straightforward job for a straightforward fella

hard to believe spargo is playing his 50th game tonight ,am a big fan so hope he plays a blinder

He owes us one, a blinder. He must concentrate on his roving, not be left in a one-on-one situation or worse. A rover like him is an asset to run clear to the ball, with the ball, accurately disposing to advantage, and repeat. He has these skills and we need these skills more than ever. Go Spargs! Give 'em a bit of short-Rs magic.

Sorry doesn't our first centre bounce usually have the Captain, VC, Oliver and Petracca, these are the guys that set the tone. There is a good 5-10minutes from the time the team runs out till the bounce, these 4 guys are responsible, Goody can't win the footy for them.

Usually Pickett is in the first bounce.

regardless, It is absolutely on the coach if it keeps happening. Change it up or something. Anything but doing the same thing week in week out for the same result.

I wonder if we'll kick 7.13, 8.12, or 9.16 tonight

We need to win just so we don't have to endure more of this dross.

This will be the ‘I told you so’ game in the post game thread. Expect some humble wisdom from these types.

Those who believe we are backsliding.

Those who believe we are on track again.

Those who believe BB should have been playing since last week.

Those who believe BB should never have played.

……….and that just for starters.

Why?

We are playing poorly and have been for weeks. It is beyond dispute. The stats back it up.

If we fix the problems we will win. If we don't win we clearly wont have fixed the problem.

the coaches know what the problems are. It whether they can do anything about it that matters.

i tend to agree. That was me last week. i'd love nothing more than dees to prove me wrong. Goodwin to prove that he can coach and motivate his players to start the game well and not get flogged out of the middle. And the forwards to have some pride in their profession to kick straight.

I want to see a ferocious Melbourne from the first bounce.

The achilles heel of Goodwin - getting the team up for the contest from the word go.

Our poor starts are very strange and add undue pressure.

Is  it game plan or just lack of intensity?

There is no logical explanation for it to happen so often but Goody needs to fix it somehow.

A motivational coach and some heavy metal music.....Not sure. Clearly not switched on enough in many starts.

Would love to know why its happening and how to fix it.

Goodys certainly no Barrassi or Clarkson but someone needs to give the lads a rap over the knuckles five mins before bounce.

Maybe some boxing drills or the New Zealand start?

As the game draws closer I’ve got a sense we’ll find our mojo, can’t see us losing.

Just watched his highlights package on Facey...it's impressive.  Tackling pressure inside 50 is as you say, first class.

My recollection from in the seats last week is of him being outsized on the wing on too many occasions, but his intensity was still right up there.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
