I though BB deserved to play

selection committee have been getting it right all year so i'll back their judgment but i would think BB has to come in next week. We can't continue to tolerate a misfiring forward set-up and leave a 60-goal per season player in the 2's.

There was probably more things against, rather than for BB being selected this week, but I feel they should have got him in and given him a chance in the run home.

T-Mac and Fritta are well down on their beginning to the year and the extra tall dragging defenders away could have been their golden ticket.

If we are still debating our best setup in round 17-18 I think it’s game over for us

It is a mistake imo. We had nobody to kick to for large parts of the Essendon game. Also, McDonald plays 5x better when another key forward in the side. Brown had earnt his spot.

Poor non selection for mine. We need to find out if the team will function better with another key forward alongside TMac and it's certainly not Weideman. Another week wasted IMO.

As usual I am in the Confusion Room. In the last 2 matches Tom, Charlie, Kozzie and Bayley have kicked 3 goals. That’s not 3 goals a match that is 3 goals in total. I get Pressure Acts are some sort of God that gets worshipped by the coaches, but can’t we expect Pressure Acts + goals from our forwards? Surely if Ben kicks 5 in a match, albeit VFL, he deserves a chance? He is proven at AFL level and was drafted to kick goals. I’m hoping it’s the weather as most have pointed out

Apart from the weather, Brown does not suit ourmethod inside 50.  Seems we deliver defensively outside a V at 45 degrees to make the ball easier to trap in.  We then have secondary midfielders present in the V to take inboard marks for easier set shots.  Happened a lot on Saturday night.

this means a big forward has to lead to the pockets to honour the system, which seems crazy.  The other option is to offer the secondary lead.  Seems contrary to what someone like BBB would naturally do (lead at the ball carrier).  Interesting to see if we alter the method or how the personnel play.

so BBB does not fit our defensive offensive method.  Wonder what he has to demonstrate to overcome this?

Probably needs to get a game to start with.

Weather isn’t the issue. 0 - 1mm rain predicted. They clearly want to have another look at the smaller forward line set up. You’ve got to trust in them (they’ve deserved that trust) but to be honest it irks me we’re not using an off-Broadway match at the G to trial BBB

Surprised to be honest.

Our forward line structure has been poor the past couple of weeks.

Don't care if it's wet or not. Brown needs time to build cohesion and chemistry with McDonald.

The wet weather excuse is a cop out.

Fritta, Spargo, and McDonald need to fir this weekend.

Standards are HIGH at the Demons 2021.
You need to perform well in multiple consecutive weeks at VFL to be considered for promotion.

Chin up BBB. We need another five+ goals for Casey this weekend. No-one is gifted a game in Demons 2021. No matter who they are ... or were. If you're good enough you'll show us. Every Demon supporter wants you to succeed.

Having said that, I feel sorry for poor Jonesy getting an injury straight after his pearler VFL game.  There's still time to get back in this team but that sucks.

The bloke hasn’t been able to play a game in a month due to COVID and boots 5 in his first game, while the seniors kick 9 in total. Setting high standards is one thing, being stubborn and ‘sticking to a plan’ that teams have begun to work out, smells like disaster come Saturday afternoon. Happy to be proven wrong, but it’s odd

Perplexed as to why BBB doesn’t get a game. Thought it would be the perfect game to return…

If he was kept out because the the weather bet it won’t rain a drop on Saturday ?

Prepared to trust the Selection Committee  who have got us to 12-2 but I will be fuming if we get done by the Giants after kicking 6.17…

I know this sounds a bit paradoxical but the Giants back six are a bit ‘meh’ so maybe the extra tall was deemed as unnecessary.
Clearly the contradiction here is that with the extra tall we could potentially have a more potent attack and kick a bigger score.

BB is an emergency so could be a late change come game day. Well I hope there is.

MFC need to decide what type of forward line they want and stick to it prior to finals.

Agreed. Jackson and Gawn played almost side by side for a large part of the dons match.

When we went inside fifty nobody was home.

We got lucky with a few ump calls and only just scored enough to make it but it was our backline that won it for us again.

If the selection committee does not think our fwd line is dysfunctional....they are wrong.

Bbb as an emergency....Maybe watching the weather but even in rain he needs to come in.

I dont get it, they were happy to play another tall in Weid for five weeks so why not bb.

Not unreasonable . So far theres only been 1 wwek without the extra tall, if you assume Weids was contributing when he played?

Last week w/out BBB I reckon.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
