Better for us if Carlton win this. We have GWS in a couple of weeks so best they're well out of the 8 and don't have much to play for.

Geez, Joel Selwood’s a dirty player. He’ll get off with a fine but I think the penalty should be harsher. There’s no question of intent vs lack of intent. It’s 100% intentional and it’s dirty, underhanded tactics that we don’t need to see.
And I don’t think it’s a good thing for little kids who play footy to see. They emulate their heroes, and like it or not (for me it’s a not) he is a hero to lil Cats fans.

Major problem is that Selwood has got away with it for years - almost every match he has ever played - so it is now a 'normality' associated with his footballing and - because he plays for Geelong - the umpires never notice it. The umpires thus exhibit and seemingly encourage (at some AFL executive's pleasure) selective inattention to violations of the rules for certain clubs. Stinks, doesn't it? The AFL's piety is sickening...

GWS all over Carlton - Toby Green just kicked a bomb

Anyone know where Jesse is?

He hurt his calf at training a few weeks ago.

Gee that torp was amazing from Toby

What would a Tommy Bugg or an ANB get if they poked a player in the eye? We might not see them ever again on a footy field. (Yes I know TB has retired.)

This [censored] of "aww gee, we don't want the best players in the game on the sidelines ... we  want them on the ground wowing the crowds" must stop. The rules should be the same for all players. But since the days of Judd and his eye gouging and "pressure points", it's been entrenched that's there's one rule for the "stars" and another for the Tommy Buggs.

Fine for both incidents but for me this is why they should make 2 reprimanding incidents equal a one week suspension. It kept happening with big name stars like Gary Ablett jnr and Tom Lynch where they’d get fine after fine for small dirty little things but never enough suspension in isolation. But if you keep doing it, it should result in a suspension. I know that they had this with the points system but that system got overly complicated with points and early pleas getting 25% discount.

Selwood is a great player but like almost every great player he has a little dirty streak to him. Judd was the same.

$3000 all up in fines for the two transgressions. That’s barely punishing and zero deterrent.

Moreover, Selwood’s a captain!!!

Selwood might play out his final days like Libba senior. Not able to hold his place without a constant litany of dog acts that substituted for his declining and eventually non-existent skills. With Chris Scott as coach it's a real possibility.

A what!?!

Oh sorry ... I was thinking of another word that starts with "c"

Meanwhile the Melbourne storm are putting on a show and showing how a top team  should demolish teams much lower than them on the ladder. Currently lead 60-0 and outscored nth melbourne.

Storm surely have the best culture of any top level team in the country. The way they can lose stars and replace them with supposedly ordinary players and still keep winning.

Meanwhile ... is it just me, or have NRL crowds actually increased during covid?

Bellamy is a genius. He turns players that clubs don't want into stars. He loses his captain and one of the greatest players ever but know worries others step up. The storm actually get good support in qld and yeah crowds could have slightly increased.

Good organization that one.

What an absolute joke is theMRO.

Selwood, a known sniper, gets two fines for cheap shots including an  attack to the face, with potentially very serious consequences.

Do we need a player to actually be blinded before this will be taken seriously?

Absolutely disgusting.

Harry Grant not a bad replacement for Cam Smith though. They do it well in League they are two steps ahead when it comes to recruiting for the future.

No draft open things up for them.

I initially thought you had done a typo but couldn't quite find context, then I looked up piety. Great use of an old word, kudos Deemania. And I agree. Selwood is a sniping cheating little [censored], who I could never understand the afl community's love affair with; and a big reason I hate Geelong.

I need to use piety more often in the future, along with f@$k Essendon, but that was a given.

Agreed but dont they have designated recruiting zones? Storm have one in queensland if im not mistaken.

Where's Steve Hocking?

Jumps out of his chair to send Mackay to the Tribunal for contesting the ball.

Nowhere to be seen when Joel Selwood deliberately drops an arm into a player's head.

Cunnington the expert at this

Carlton are a mess.

I got sucked in big time and tipped them for the 8 at the start of the year..

Game is on the Sunshine Coast. They have really embraced the Storm.

Understandable as Broncos have barely won a game.

Mind you it's only around a 10k stadium

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
